PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Anthony J (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Christopher Chambers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Anthony J has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Anthony J!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Christopher Chambers!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Ackerman and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chambers wants to clinch up but J keeps it at a distance.

J shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
J trying to control but Chambers is working from the bottom.
J has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Chambers working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. J doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. J manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
J throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
J tries to stand but Chambers is controlling from the bottom.
Chambers looking to control.
J is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Chambers is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
J content to stall in guard here.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

J closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Chambers to the mat! Chambers manages to get full guard.

J is stalling in the full guard.
Chambers wants to stand up but J is controlling him.
Chambers tries to land a sweep but no joy.
J trying to control the position from guard on top but Chambers is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

J trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Chambers manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. J manages to get himself to full guard.

J is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Chambers postures up.
J wants to stand and escape but Chambers is having none of it.
J is breathing heavily.
J is trying to keep Chambers in close.
J being controlled here, momentarily.
J is pulling down on Chambers's head to control his posture.
Chambers trying to control the position from guard on top but J is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
J shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Chambers pinned against the cage. Chambers gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Chambers tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but J swivels and escapes.
J wants to clinch

and Chambers counters with a takedown into side control.

J is looking to reverse the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Chambers wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by J, who protects the arm well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
J tries to improve position but can't.
J could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
J is not content to let Chambers control the position.
Chambers throws a strike aimed at the side of J's head but J avoids it well.
J on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if J tries to get out of the position.
Chambers wants to stand but J has his arm trapped.
J is trying to get back to half guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Chambers shoots in but no luck this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Christopher Chambers will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


J looks for a takedown but Chambers sprawls well.
J is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Anthony J seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Chambers fails with the takedown

so J counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
J won't allow Chambers to sweep him here.
J is pushing down on Chambers's leg trying to pass to half guard. Chambers is fighting to maintain full guard but J has managed to sneak the leg through.
J controlling the pace.
Chambers trying to hold on to J's head to control him but J postures up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

J stands up and beckons Chambers to join him on the feet.
Chambers tries for a takedown but J sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

J gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Chambers counters with a left and a right that stings J.
J scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
J misses with a body kick.

Chambers drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Chambers has control of an arm but J manages to advance to Chambers's back!
J just trying to survive but Chambers is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
J is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Chambers is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
J might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
J tries to break free.
J breaks Chambers's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Chambers keeping moving, preventing J from controlling successfully.
Chambers trying to keep a closed guard but J is proving a slippery customer.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

J shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Chambers's guard.
Chambers looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Chambers controlling the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Chambers is on top in guard.

Chambers gets to his feet. J looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

A chopping leg kick lands by Chambers.
J doesn't manage to clinch there - Chambers circles away.
Chambers shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and J counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Anthony J has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Christopher Chambers.
Chambers controls J momentarily but J frees himself.
Anthony J overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Chambers has an active guard here but J has managed to pass into half guard.
Chambers is trying to stand back up but J is controlling him
Chambers moves into full guard.
J stays in close to Chambers's body and controls the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
J preventing the sweep.
Chambers is looking to stand up but J isn't so interested in that idea.

Chambers looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! J has picked Chambers up and slammed him! Chambers can't keep hold of the triangle and J manages to pass to side control!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

J decides to stand back up. J steps back and let's Chambers get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anthony J dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Chambers tries to clinch up.

J shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting J here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
J tries to free his leg and advance position but Chambers is retaining full guard.

Chambers escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. J gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
J wants to control from the top but Chambers keeps moving.
Chambers looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
J wants to pass the guard but Chambers is keeping the position.
Chambers is trying to keep J in close.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
J is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's one minute gone in the round.
J passes into half guard.
Chambers tries to roll over but J keeps him under control.
J trying to control the pace.
Chambers is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of J's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take J's back!
Chambers is hanging on to J's back as he tries to escape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

J is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Chambers gets his way!
J wants to control his opponent's hands but Chambers gets his hands free.
Chambers throwing damaging strikes from the back! J could be in trouble here!
J is trying to break free.
J trying to control but not successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Chambers has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.

Chambers is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. J is defending well though. Chambers let's go of the attempt for now.

Chambers is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. J knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften J for a finish.
J takes a big shot to the side of the head.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
J is in bad spot here.
J is working hard here to advance position.
J manages to reverse the position and now he's in Chambers's guard. Nice work there by J.
Chambers tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Chambers tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but J paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Chambers gets caught flat footed, as J shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

J drops back, looking for a kneebar! Chambers looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Chambers looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Chambers!
J can't do much from the bottom here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Anthony J showed his dominance in that final round.
Well J has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
