PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mario Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jory Rockford (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mario Hawk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jory Rockford!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Nard Betker and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hawk throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Hawk looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Hawk works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Rockford closes the distance and clinches.
Rockford wants to get back to striking at distance but Hawk won't allow it.
Rockford stalls.

Rockford gets control of Hawk's arms and successfully pulls guard. Rockford will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Rockford throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Rockford pulls Hawk in close to prevent any damage.
Rockford not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Rockford is controlling Hawk's posture.
Hawk trying to control the position from guard on top but Rockford is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jory Rockford hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Hawk misses with a looping left.
Rockford throws a head kick but Hawk moves out of range.

Rockford shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Rockford with a flurry of punches that miss.
Hawk really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Rockford gets to his feet - Hawk follows without any prompting.

Rockford closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Hawk's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hawk is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rockford defends well.
Hawk avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Hawk is trying to hold Rockford in close to prevent damage but Rockford has managed to pass into half guard.
Rockford slows the pace down in half guard.
Hawk knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rockford on the ground.

Rockford has hold of Hawk's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Hawk manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Rockford is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Hawk to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Hawk shrugs it off.

Hawk is desperately trying to improve his position but Rockford has a good base and remains in mount.

Hawk is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Rockford looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Rockford is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Hawk wants to get back to full guard but Rockford has mounted him!
Rockford has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rockford takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jory Rockford.

Rockford thows a huge punch but Hawk dodges it nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rockford looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jory Rockford showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Rockford moves into the clinch.

Hawk is fighting off a takedown attempt but Rockford is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Hawk to the mat. Hawk regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Rockford gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Rockford manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Hawk on his heels. He'll look to pass Hawk's guard now, I'm sure.

Rockford decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Rockford has managed to clinch.

Rockford jumps guard and drags Hawk to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Rockford drives through with a takedown into Hawk's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Hawk is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Rockford wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hawk keeps working.

Rockford decides to stand up, so the ref orders Hawk to his feet.

Hawk wants to get back to his feet but Rockford drags him back down.
A lull in the action here as Rockford stalls from top position.

Hawk on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hawk tries to get out of the position.
Rockford is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Hawk will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jory Rockford is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Rockford decides to stand back up. Rockford steps back and let's Hawk get back to his feet.

Well Rockford has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
