PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between William Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Congoo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). William Jackson looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, William Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chris Congoo!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, John Mangel and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Congoo with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Jackson looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Congoo decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Still in half guard, Congoo seems content to control.
It looks like Congoo might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Congoo is trying to work for a kimura but Jackson is defending well.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Chris Congoo hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Jackson gets tackled into the cage by Congoo. Congoo maintains the clinch.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Jackson tries to stall but Congoo uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Jackson blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Congoo gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Congoo is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Chris Congoo.

and Congoo counters with a nice body shot.
Jackson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Congoo.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Congoo has managed to clinch.

Congoo has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Jackson uses from the top position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Congoo has his foot on Jackson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jackson works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Congoo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Congoo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Congoo is trying to get an arm triangle but Jackson is defending well.

Congoo takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Congoo lands a couple of good shots and Jackson has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

Congoo just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Congoo is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Jackson defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris Congoo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!



Jackson gets caught napping as Congoo dives in and scores a takedown. Jackson manages to retain guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Congoo's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Congoo pushing down on Jackson's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Jackson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Congoo pulls his head out easily.

Congoo has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Congoo is looking for a kimura but Jackson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Congoo to get the leverage.

Jackson is working to avoid the ground and pound but Congoo connects with a decent elbow.
Congoo content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Congoo throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Jackson!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Chris Congoo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Congoo has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
