The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Njewel jabs at Palhares 's body.

and Njewel counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Njewel lands a high kick to the side of Palhares 's head that stuns him and send him tumbling down to the canvas! Njewel dives into guard, looking to finish.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Palhares throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Njewel escapes and throws Palhares 's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Palhares tries to score a power double leg takedown but Njewel sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Palhares somewhat.

Jake Palhares seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Palhares swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Njewel counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
That kick from Njewel tenderised Palhares 's leg. Palhares is trying to keep his angry face on.
Palhares is breathing heavily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Njewel moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Palhares takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Njewel bobbing and weaving well here. And he's unloaded with a massive right hand that drops Palhares ! He dives into his guard looking to finish!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Njewel unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Palhares wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Njewel celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
