The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Igor Prikhodko and Illya Tyunina.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hughes closes the distance but Simms moves to the side
and Simms counters with a one-two to the body.
Hughes fails with a takedown attempt.
Hughes throws a left and a right that both miss
and Simms counters with a left and a right that stings Hughes.
Hughes shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hughes fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Simms avoids it really well and circles away.
Randy Simms has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt Hughes.
Simms feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Hughes has his foot on Simms's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Simms works his way back into a safe position though.
Hughes has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Simms not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Hughes working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Simms doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Hughes is tightening it up a little... Simms has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Simms reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Simms taps out! Nice BJJ there by Hughes!
