PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ivan Reitman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Hardy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thomas Hardy is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ivan Reitman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Thomas Hardy!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Summer Carpenter and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hardy shoots for a takedown but Reitman saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Hardy looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Reitman closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Hardy quickly recovers to half guard.
Reitman lands strikes from half guard.

Reitman decides to stand up.

Reitman moves into the clinch successfully.

Reitman pulls guard successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Reitman has his feet on Hardy's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Hardy stuffs the takedown attempt from Reitman. Reitman gets slowly back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Reitman fails with an attempt to clinch.
Reitman shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hardy as he avoids it easily.

Hardy gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Hardy not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Hardy keeping moving, preventing Reitman from controlling successfully.

Reitman postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Reitman trying to control but Hardy is working from the bottom.

We're going to have a standup here because Ivan Reitman wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Reitman doesn't manage to clinch there - Hardy circles away.

Reitman ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Reitman no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Reitman is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Reitman has his foot on Hardy's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hardy works his way back into a safe position though.

Hardy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Reitman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The ref stands the fighters back up because Ivan Reitman just wasn't active enough.

Hardy lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Hardy.

Reitman instigates a clinch.

Reitman jumps guard and drags Hardy to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Hardy wants to control from the top but Reitman keeps moving.
Hardy wants to stand but Reitman has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ivan Reitman.

Reitman drives through with a takedown into Hardy's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hardy will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Hardy displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Reitman.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hardy has hold of Reitman's hands but Reitman slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Reitman is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Reitman lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Reitman is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hardy tries to kick Reitman off but Reitman keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Reitman tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Hardy is bucking up trying to escape but Reitman cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Reitman breaks from Hardy's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Hardy defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Reitman.
Reitman is landing with some decent strikes but Hardy is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Reitman is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Hardy is wriggling around trying to escape.
Reitman avoids the attempt from Hardy to control.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Ivan Reitman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Hardy bucks up and tries to throw Reitman off but instead Reitman has got his back!

Reitman has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Hardy! Can he survive? No! He's out! Reitman gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
