The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nicks shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Nicks wants to stand up but Cobra is controlling the position.
Cobra has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Nicks is working away from the top position though.
Cobra is pressing down on Nicks's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Nicks wants to stand and escape but instead Cobra has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Cobra drops back looking for a leg! Nicks is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Nicks manages to kick Cobra off! Cobra jumps back into Nicks's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Cobra shoots in for a double leg but Nicks sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Cobra takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

It looks like Roger Cobra has been cut.

Nicks throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cobra was covering up waiting for the punch and Nicks finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Cobra is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Nicks is aware though and is defending well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Cobra working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nicks doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nicks manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Nicks trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Cobra manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cobra sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Nicks's guard.

Nicks shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Cobra napping and manages to drive through into side control!

After the fight, Roger Cobra was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
