PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Charles Barkley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Reitman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ivan Reitman struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 146.4lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Charles Barkley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ivan Reitman!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Donatello Bradman and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Barkley feints and as Reitman raises his hands in defense, Barkley changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Reitman has control of Barkley's left arm, preventing Barkley from doing any damage.
Reitman's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Barkley really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Barkley wants to stand but Reitman has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Reitman wants to sweep but no luck.

Barkley drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Reitman manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Barkley has Reitman in his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Barkley controls Reitman momentarily but Reitman frees himself.
Reitman prevents Barkley from getting back to his feet.
Barkley will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Reitman is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Barkley has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Barkley creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Reitman stands up and beckons Barkley to join him on the feet.
Barkley shoots in and drives through. Reitman sprawls well.

A close round but Ivan Reitman will probably get the nod.

Reitman looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Barkley tries for a takedown but Reitman sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Barkley closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Reitman's guard.

Barkley drops back, looking for a kneebar! Reitman looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Reitman looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Reitman!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Reitman can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Barkley is looking to escape.

Ivan Reitman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Barkley's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Barkley shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Reitman but Reitman pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Reitman tries to close the distance and clinch up but Barkley swats him away and circles back towards the center.
