PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jim Storm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gregory Jules (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Storm kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is ThunderStruck. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jim Storm!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 15 - 2, fighting out of Sydney, Gregory Jules!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, John Mangel and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jules closes the distance and pushes Storm back into the cage.
Storm letting Jules take a breather here.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Storm drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Jules manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Storm has Jules in his guard.
Jules trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Storm throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Jules advances to half guard.

Jules seems to be working for a kimura but Storm defends the submission attempt.

Jules looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Jules wants to work for an arm triangle but Storm is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Jules has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Storm is proving hard to escape from.

Storm is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jules is aware though and is defending well.

Storm working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jules doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jules manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Jules drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jules jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Jules is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Storm sees it coming and defends easily.
Jules takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Storm looking for submissions off his back.

Jules seems to be looking for submissions.

Jules is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Storm defends it well.

Jules stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Storm to get to his feet.
Jules leaves Storm with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Jules throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.

Jules dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Storm. That did some damage!
Storm shoots in but Jules avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Gregory Jules seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jules doesn't manage to clinch there - Storm circles away.
Storm sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Jules tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Storm paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Jules looks to land a body kick but Storm moved away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jules looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Jules misses with a body kick.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Storm changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jules tries to avoid it but Storm manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jules to the ground. Jules escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jim Storm. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jules closes the distance and clinches.
Jules slows down the pace here.

Jules's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gregory Jules dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Storm shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jules pinned against the cage. Jules gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Jules misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jules fails with an attempt to clinch.

Jules takes the fight into the clinch.

Storm works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Storm drops back looking for a leg! Jules is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Jules manages to kick Storm off! Storm jumps back into Jules's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Storm trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Storm thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Jules throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Jules pushes Storm off and scrambles back to his feet.
Crunch! Jules slams his shin into Storm's torso.
Jules scores with a kick to the midsection.
Storm tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jules swivels and escapes.
Jules lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Jules keeps Storm at a distance using the push kick.
Storm has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Jules.
Jules lands a high kick!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Storm drives through with a takedown into Jules's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Storm got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jules has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Storm has managed to get both his arms back between Jules's legs - danger averted.

Jules escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Storm gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Storm won't allow Jules to get back to his feet.

Storm drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Storm jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Jules is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Storm has gone for a leg lock! Jules slips out almost immediately though and dives into Storm's guard.

Storm has his foot on Jules's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jules works his way back into a safe position though.

Jules maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Storm could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Jules has cracked it and Storm is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Jules!
