PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Doe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Tanner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Doe comes to the cage accompanied by How could I just kill a man. Tanner has chosen Hooty Tooty as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Doe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mark Tanner!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Anthony Taglia and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tanner lands with a straight right. Doe didn't see that one coming.
Doe cracks a nice hook into Tanner's ribs.
Tanner connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Doe's hands.
Doe keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Tanner.
Tanner swings widly with a right hand
and Doe counters with a one-two to the body.
Tanner misses with a straight left.
Doe uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Tanner.
Doe displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.


It looks like Mark Tanner has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Tanner misses with a right hand
and Doe counters with a nice low kick that buckles Tanner's knee momentarily.
Tanner misses with a hook
and Doe counters with a series of strikes. Tanner will be more careful next time no doubt.
Doe walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Doe is looking to clinch.
Tanner tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Doe blocks a jab.
Tanner rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Doe counters with a crisp one two that drops Tanner! Doe thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Tanner to his feet! Tanner is in big trouble!


Tanner is rocked!

Tanner closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Tanner is still in real trouble! Can Doe finish him?
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Tanner goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Doe rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Tanner's guard! Nice work there by Doe!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tanner wants to stand up but Doe is controlling him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tanner is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Tanner seems to have recovered his senses.
Doe's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Tanner uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Doe steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Tanner.
An inside leg kick lands from Doe.

Doe clinches with his opponent.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Tanner pulls guard.
Tanner is looking to stand up but Doe isn't so interested in that idea.
Doe has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Doe trying to control the position from guard on top but Tanner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Doe stops Tanner from standing up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Doe sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Tanner's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Tanner trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Tanner is trying to stand.
Tanner is looking to improve his position but Doe isn't that keen on the idea.
Tanner manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Tanner is not content to let Doe control the position.
Doe stops Tanner from getting back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Doe tries to pass to full mount but Tanner defends it.
Tanner is trying to stand.
Tanner is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Doe passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Tanner!
Tanner manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Tanner kicks Doe off and gets back to his feet.
Tanner throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Tanner pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Tanner misses with a looping right.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A decent looking cross lands there for Tanner.
Tanner blocks the body kick.
Tanner takes a shot to the body in his stride.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Tanner rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Doe counters with a head kick.
Tanner takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Doe misses with a two punch combination.

Doe fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Tanner, pushing him back against the cage.
Tanner can't get the takedown.
A body shot lands from Doe.
Tanner looks winded!
Tanner misses with a punch on the inside.
Doe lands a body shot in the clinch.
Doe scores with a nice hook to the head.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Doe breaks the clinch.
Tanner on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Doe blocks a head kick by Tanner.
Tanner throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Doe dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Mark Tanner's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Tanner chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Doe can pounce on him.
A swing and a miss from Tanner.
Tanner misses with a lunging right hand
and Doe counters with a nice body shot.
Doe uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Tanner.
Doe lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Tanner throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Doe counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Tanner throws a poor cross that misses
and Doe counters with a thumping low kick.
Tanner misses with a left hand
and Doe counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Doe moves away from the strike by Tanner.
Doe lands a jab to Tanner's midsection.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Doe lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Good standup being displayed there by Doe as he connects with a hook.
Tanner sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Mark Tanner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tanner is breathing heavily.
Doe scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Tanner doesn't seem bothered though.
Doe cracks the inside of Tanner's front leg.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Doe scoring well with a low kick there.
Tanner might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Doe, right into the meat.
Decent striking displayed by Doe there.
Tanner throws a poor cross that misses
enabling Doe to counter with a crisp jab.
Doe misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Tanner throws a poor cross that misses
and Doe cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Doe turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Doe scores with a hook to the body. Tanner takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
John Doe is winning the standup battle so far.
Tanner misses with a hook. Doe ducked under it nicely.
Doe is looking to wear down Tanner with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Doe fails with an attempt to clinch.
Tanner takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Doe keeps Tanner at a distance using the push kick.

Doe cracks Tanner with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Doe has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Tanner to stand back up!

Doe moves into the clinch.
Tanner's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Tanner drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Doe taking a breather.
Doe using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Tanner has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Tanner swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Doe lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Tanner backwards.
Tanner working aggressively here.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Doe creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Doe's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Tanner avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Tanner misses with a left hand
and Doe makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Tanner swings widly with a right hand
and Doe counters with a big right hand! Oh Tanner is in trouble here! Doe follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Doe!
After the fight, John Doe was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
