Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ben Barnes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Harry Pigeon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pigeon has chosen Hank Williams Jr. - Country Boy Can Survive as his entrance music. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ben Barnes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Harry Pigeon!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pigeon shoots in for a double leg but Barnes sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Barnes blocks a head kick by Pigeon.
Some wild striking there from Pigeon.
Nice takedown defense from Barnes. No joy for Pigeon on that attempt.
Pigeon takes one to the side of the head.
Pigeon slips a straight right by Barnes.
Pigeon misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Ben Barnes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Harry Pigeon.
Pigeon shoots in for a takedown but Barnes shows good takedown defense.

Pigeon throws a hook to the side of Barnes's head but Barnes sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Barnes has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Pigeon finds it's way round the side to connect with Barnes's head.

Barnes misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Pigeon.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Pigeon is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Barnes is defending well.
Barnes lands a nice knee to the body.

An uppercut to the body lands inside from Barnes.
Pigeon blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Pigeon tries to stall but Barnes uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Pigeon goes for a takedown attempt but Barnes pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Barnes takes a swing at Pigeon's ribcage but misses.
Barnes throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Barnes ducks under a wild hook from Pigeon.
Pigeon throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Barnes stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Harry Pigeon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Barnes scores with a head kick.
Barnes ducks under a wild hook from Pigeon.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Pigeon gets the takedown into side control.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Barnes prevents Pigeon from improving position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pigeon wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Barnes, who protects the arm well.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Barnes is looking for a sweep.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Barnes's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Barnes throws a lazy right hand but Pigeon sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Pigeon throws a hook but Barnes blocks it.
Barnes tests Pigeon's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Barnes with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

Pigeon swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Pigeon looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Barnes is fending him off so far but Pigeon persists. Nope, Barnes circles away and we're back to standing.

Pigeon shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Barnes is trying to defend but Pigeon finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Pigeon wants to control but Barnes is keeping him busy.
Barnes is trying to maintain the position but Pigeon is very close to passing his half guard.
Barnes on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Barnes tries to get out of the position.

Barnes tries to lock up and control but Pigeon gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Pigeon with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Pigeon prevents Barnes from getting the reversal.

Pigeon goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Barnes is on top in guard.
Pigeon wants to sweep here but Barnes controlling him for the moment.

Pigeon shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Barnes napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Barnes is not content to let Pigeon control the position.

Pigeon tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Pigeon has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Pigeon is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Barnes knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Pigeon fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Barnes tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Pigeon wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pigeon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Barnes keeps working.
Barnes tries to improve position but can't.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ben Barnes.
I think Barnes has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
