Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
25 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Eiji Kawashima! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
15 - 5 - 2, fighting out of New York, Stanley Burrell ! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Frank Dennis and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Kawashima lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Burrell has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Burrell and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Kawashima clobbers Burrell with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Kawashima takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
It looks like Eiji Kawashima has been cut. Kawashima misses with a straight right. Kawashima misses with a head kick.
Kawashima tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Burrell paws at him with a jab and circles away. Kawashima keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Eiji Kawashima seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Burrell throws a hook but Kawashima blocks it. Burrell takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Burrell ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Kawashima misses with a leg kick and Burrell counters with an outside leg kick.
Kawashima punishes Burrell 's body with a nice straight punch. Kawashima fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Burrell is out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round. Burrell tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Kawashima walks into a straight right hand from Burrell . Kawashima tries to clinch but Burrell moves out of range. Kawashima is looking to land body kicks. A telegraphed right hand from Kawashima misses the target. Kawashima tries to land a front kick but Burrell steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Kawashima throws a nice outside leg kick. Kawashima uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. A lazy left from Kawashima finds it's target. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Ouch! a nice leg kick from Kawashima, right into the meat.
Kawashima cracks Burrell with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Burrell tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Kawashima pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Burrell is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Eiji Kawashima! Eiji Kawashima retains his welterweight title! Eiji Kawashima thanked the fans post fight for their support.
