The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, John Kavanagh and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ali swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ali shoots and misses
and Gates counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Gates.
Gates keeps control of Ali as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Ali tries to break the clinch but Gates is controlling the position.
Ali is trying to break free.
Gates is struggling to control the position.
Ali gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gates is looking for a sweep. Ali is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ali wants to stand up but Gates is controlling the position.
Ali is keen to just control but Gates is a slippery customer.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Taufik Ali just wasn't active enough.

That was a close round but I would say that Taufik Ali will probably get the nod.

Gates feints and as Ali raises his hands in defense, Gates changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Ali wants to control but Gates passes easily into half guard.
Gates seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Ali is looking to control Gates's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ali avoid being mounted?

Ali bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Gates is not content to let Ali control the position.

Gates is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Ali has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Gates tries to buck Ali off but Ali is having none of it.
Ali has an Americana. Gates didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Ali is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Ali hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
