Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Shamus Stirling (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charles Barkley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Shamus Stirling!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Charles Barkley!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Summer Carpenter and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Barkley drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Barkley wants to control from the top but Stirling keeps moving.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Stirling holds on and takes a little breather.
Stirling wants to get back to his feet but Barkley is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Stirling is controlling Barkley's posture.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Shamus Stirling wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Stirling circles away from the clinch attempt.

Stirling shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Stirling is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barkley tries to roll over but Stirling keeps him under control.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Shamus Stirling.
Barkley pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Barkley misses with a series of wild punches.

Stirling darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Barkley tries to get to full guard but Stirling has control of the leg.
Stirling not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Well, if Stirling is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Barkley wants to control but Stirling is keeping busy and won't allow it.

We're going to have a standup here because Shamus Stirling wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Stirling shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Barkley manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Barkley not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Stirling's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Barkley wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Stirling is now in half guard.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Stirling tries to clinch there but Barkley circles away.
Barkley gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Stirling throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Barkley.
Barkley shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Stirling counters with a thumping low kick.

Stirling gets tackled into the cage by Barkley. Barkley maintains the clinch.

Barkley tightens his grip and picks Stirling up, before dumping him to the ground. Stirling manages to land in guard.
Barkley stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stirling swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Shamus Stirling overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Barkley got a little sloppy there for a moment and Stirling has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Barkley has managed to get both his arms back between Stirling's legs - danger averted.

Barkley wants to stand but Stirling is controlling his posture from full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Stirling wants to stand but Barkley is controlling the position.
Barkley wants to control from the top but Stirling keeps moving.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Stirling wants to stand up but Barkley is controlling him.
Barkley must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Charles Barkley hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Barkley tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Stirling paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Barkley fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Stirling.

Stirling gets caught napping as Barkley dives in and scores a takedown. Stirling manages to retain guard.
Barkley tries to free his leg and advance position but Stirling is retaining full guard.

Stirling has his foot on Barkley's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Barkley works his way back into a safe position though.

Barkley has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Stirling is proving hard to escape from.

Barkley wants to control from the top but Stirling keeps moving.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Charles Barkley.
Stirling stuffs the takedown attempt from Barkley. Barkley gets slowly back to his feet.

Barkley tries to keep at a distance but Stirling has taken the fight into the clinch.

Stirling has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Barkley regains guard immediately.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Barkley had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Stirling defends it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Charles Barkley will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!



Barkley closes the distance and clinches.
Stirling looking to throw knees to the head but Barkley is blocking nicely.

Stirling gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Barkley regains guard.

Barkley is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Stirling is aware though and is defending well.

Barkley wants to control but Stirling postures up.

Barkley wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.

Barkley gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Stirling slows the pace down in half guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Stirling keeps the fight on the outside.

Barkley scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Barkley is trying to control the action in half guard but Stirling is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Stirling wants to get back to his feet.
Barkley tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Stirling.

Stirling is trying to stand up here but Barkley is controlling him well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Barkley drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Stirling gets the underhooks and prevents it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

I would just about give that final round to Charles Barkley.
I think Barkley has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
