PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gunnar Steigelmann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenpachi Zaraki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gunnar Steigelmann!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Kenpachi Zaraki!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Jorge Garcia and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zaraki ducks under a wild hook from Steigelmann.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Zaraki fakes the leg kick and cracks Steigelmann in the body.

and Zaraki holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Steigelmann is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Zaraki is keeping busy.
Steigelmann is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Zaraki is defending well for now.
Zaraki is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Steigelmann to keep the fight standing.
Gunnar Steigelmann has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kenpachi Zaraki.

Zaraki steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Steigelmann.
Zaraki dives in and grabs Steigelmann's left leg, looking for a takedown. Steigelmann pushes down on Zaraki's head and hops out.
Horrible takedown by Zaraki or perhaps it was just good defense by Steigelmann which made him look bad.
Steigelmann throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Zaraki sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Steigelmann misses with a straight right.
Steigelmann cracks Zaraki with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Zaraki doesn't manage to clinch there - Steigelmann circles away.
Steigelmann works the jab nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Zaraki tries to close the distance and clinch but Steigelmann swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Zaraki moves into the clinch successfully.
Zaraki blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Zaraki drops down looking for an ankle pick but Steigelmann pulls his leg out and moves away.
Steigelmann misses with an uppercut. Zaraki saw that one coming.
Zaraki uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Steigelmann.
Zaraki moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Zaraki shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Steigelmann sprawls well. Steigelmann wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Zaraki gets slowly back to his feet.

Zaraki throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Steigelmann's waist but Steigelmann gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Zaraki off to one side.

Zaraki throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Steigelmann's waist but Steigelmann gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Zaraki off to one side.

Zaraki is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Zaraki tries to clinch but Steigelmann moves out of range.
Zaraki takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Steigelmann throws a body punch but Zaraki moves out of range.

Steigelmann throws a big overhand right that connects, sending Zaraki tumbling to the canvas!


Zaraki is rocked!

Zaraki is still in real trouble! Can Steigelmann finish him?
Steigelmann is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Steigelmann drops a big elbow. That's hurt Zaraki! More shots from Steigelmann and the ref steps in! The fight is over!
