Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alexej Stepanov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jordan James! The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Nard Betker and Paul Aken.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stepanov tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but James paws at him with a jab and circles away. Stepanov is trying hard to land a takedown here. James sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. James misses with a takedown attempt
and Stepanov counters with a nice double leg into side control. James won't be happy with that. James tries to bench press Stepanov off him but Stepanov keeps the position. Stepanov is looking to take a break and control but James is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Stepanov tries to move to mount but James blocks the move with his legs. An elbow from Stepanov crashes against the mat.
Stepanov tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Stepanov throwing strikes but James manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

James stands up. A looping hook to the body misses from Stepanov. James does a little dance to reset his feet. Stepanov will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
James moves into the clinch. James is looking to take this one to the mat. James tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Stepanov avoids it.
James pulls guard successfully.
Stepanov works a leg free and moves into half guard. Stepanov lands with a punch from half guard. Stepanov not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. James punching from the bottom.
Stepanov has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Stepanov missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Stepanov seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but James does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
James actively working from the bottom here. Stepanov working the head and body with strikes. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Stepanov winds up and cracks James with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Stepanov is working for a submission of some sort.

Stepanov is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, James has managed to free his arm - good work.

Stepanov throwing shots but James is blocking nicely. Stepanov sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. James defending well though. James manages to get to full guard.

James uses the cage to get back to his feet.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. James fails in his attempt to clinch. James is looking to clinch but Stepanov is avoiding it.

James swats away the attempt to clinch by Stepanov.
Stepanov gets in close and instigates a clinch. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
James breaks from the clinch.
Stepanov jabs James to the body, keeping him at a distance. James tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Stepanov manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. James tries to clinch but Stepanov moves out of range. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Stepanov decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in James's guard. Stepanov won't allow James to sweep him here. Alexej Stepanov overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Stepanov throwing strikes but missing. Stepanov seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. James has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
 Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. James throws a nice looking combination but Stepanov bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Stepanov misses with a double jab.
James has a takedown stuffed. Stepanov tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. James tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Stepanov counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Nice elbow from James.
James breaks from the clinch.
James shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Stepanov but Stepanov pushes him off and we're back to square one. Stepanov lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
James throws a sloppy head kick and Stepanov moves out of range easily. James looks to clinch
and Stepanov counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Stepanov trying to control but James is working from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Stepanov controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Stepanov wants to control from the top but James keeps moving. Stepanov stays in close to James's body and controls the position.
 The ref stands the fighters back up. Alexej Stepanov wasn't doing enough on the ground. James keeps the fight on the outside. Stepanov circles away from the clinch attempt.
Stepanov leaves James with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Alexej Stepanov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jordan James. Stepanov tries to clinch there but James circles away.

Stepanov moves into range and clinches up with James.
Stepanov has hold of one of James's legs. James is fighting the takedown attempt but Stepanov gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Stepanov trying to control the position from guard on top but James is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Stepanov controls the pace of the fight for a moment. James is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Stepanov works over James with some ground and pound from guard. Stepanov scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Stepanov trying to control but James is working from the bottom. James wants to sweep but no luck.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. James keeping moving, preventing Stepanov from controlling successfully.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Stepanov is taking a breather. James says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Stepanov looks to land a strike but James avoids it nicely and regains full guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. James keeping moving, preventing Stepanov from controlling successfully. James is looking to stand up but Stepanov isn't so interested in that idea. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stepanov is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. James wants to control from the top but Stepanov keeps moving. James looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

 The ref stands the fighters back up. Jordan James was stalling too much, according to the referee. Stepanov shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. James defends it nicely. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alexej Stepanov. That's going to take a lot out of him. Stepanov uses good head movement to avoid the hook from James. James slips under a jab. James bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Stepanov fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Stepanov tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but James swivels and escapes.

James will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Stepanov shoots in for a double leg but James sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. James swinging wildly here.

James takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. James is trying to maintain a safe position but Stepanov gets an underhook and turns James into the cage. James looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

 That's four minutes gone in the round. James will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Stepanov cracks James with a solid left hand. Stepanov looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Stepanov is looking to work some ground and pound but James has wrist control. Stepanov passes easily into side control. Nice work. Stepanov throwing strikes but missing, from side control. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Stepanov throws an elbow but James slips to the side and avoids it well. Jordan James has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Alexej Stepanov is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Stepanov controls the position from side control.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Alexej Stepanov. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Stepanov, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
