PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Luis Fierro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Floyd Howard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Luis Fierro has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Luis Fierro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Floyd Howard!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Howard feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Howard looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Howard is in close to Fierro's body, working some short punches and elbows.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Floyd Howard has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Fierro enables Howard to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Fierro manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Howard connects with a couple of short punches.

Howard looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Howard takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Howard should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Howard is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Howard postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Fierro to stand up.

Fierro gets caught flat footed, as Howard shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Howard slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Howard postures up in Fierro's guard and throws a big left but Fierro blocks it.

Howard stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Howard gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Howard misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Fierro.
Fierro prevents the takedown attempt.
Fierro wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Howard is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Fierro can't fight it off and eventually Howard manages to take the fight to the floor. Fierro looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Fierro will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Howard drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
An elbow from Howard crashes against the mat.
Fierro stops Howard from passing to mount.

Howard thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Howard stands up.

Howard lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Howard.
Howard is looking to clinch but Fierro is avoiding it.

Howard drives through with a takedown into Fierro's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Fierro is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Howard content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Howard advances position into side control!
Fierro really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Howard is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Fierro knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Howard has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Howard tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Howard is landing with some decent strikes but Fierro is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Howard lands a couple of good shots and Fierro has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Howard thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.

Howard really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Fierro.
Can Fierro hold on?! Howard is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.

Howard is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Floyd Howard showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
