PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between George Wood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Cash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, George Wood!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jeff Cash!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Ian Loll and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wood scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
The fighters circle momentarily. Wood darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Cash closes the distance and clinches.

Wood is fighting off a takedown attempt but Cash is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Wood to the mat. Wood regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Wood isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Cash stacks Wood on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Cash!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Cash is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Wood has escaped the position, nice work there.
Wood is working to avoid the ground and pound but Cash connects with a decent elbow.
Wood is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Cash off and has taken his back!
Wood tries to get the hooks in deep but Cash pushed the leg off.
Cash is in bad spot here.
Cash turns into Wood and is now in his guard.

Wood had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Cash is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Wood Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Cash's back instead.

Cash keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Wood's head.

Wood is breathing heavily.
Cash lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Cash throws a big right hand that misses.
Cash is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Cash must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Wood is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Cash passes Wood's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Cash is pressing down on Wood's thigh, looking to free his foot. Wood is holding on for now.
Wood tries to get to full guard but Cash has control of the leg.
Cash lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Cash connects with a nice short shot to Wood's temple.
Cash is trying to control the action in half guard but Wood is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Wood manages to get to full guard.
Cash is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Wood is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Wood looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Wood can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Cash controls the pace.

Cash throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Cash is working Wood over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Cash postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Cash working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Wood is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Wood looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cash is one step ahead there.

Wood has his foot on Cash's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cash works his way back into a safe position though.
Cash lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Cash postures up and lands a big shot to Wood's brow.

Wood looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Cash's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Wood trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Cash lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Wood has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cash can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Cash seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Cash wants to control from the top but Wood keeps moving.
Wood tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Cash throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Wood misses with a takedown attempt - Cash sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Wood closes this distance looking for a takedown but Cash circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jeff Cash will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Cash drives through and clinches with Wood against the cage.
Wood drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Cash trying to land knees to the body.
Cash is pressed up against the cage. Wood has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Cash down to the mat. Cash avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
George Wood is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Wood blocks a head kick by Cash.

Wood tries to keep at a distance but Cash has taken the fight into the clinch.
Cash keeps control of Wood as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Wood misses with a punch to the body.
Wood changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Cash fights it off and pushes away nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for George Wood. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wood throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Cash takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Cash tries a head kick but it misses.

Cash moves into the clinch.
Cash tries to land knees in the clinch but Wood avoids the damage to the body.
Cash landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cash lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Cash throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

Cash manages to break the clinch.
Cash swings away with a leg kick that misses.
A jab from Cash misses.

Cash has closed the distance and engaged Wood in a clinch.

Cash has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Wood is trying to keep an underhook but Cash manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Cash sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Wood defending well though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wood is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Wood is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Cash's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Cash's back!

Cash postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Wood can't keep his opponent in guard - Cash advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Wood is trying to get back to full guard.
Cash drops an elbow to the side of Wood's head.
Wood throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Cash wants to control but Wood is keeping him busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Wood is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Cash's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Cash's back!

Cash is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Wood gets his way!
Wood doesn't have the hooks in and Cash manages to turn into his guard.

Wood is working on a guillotine. He's managed to get to full guard and he's really squeezing tight! Cash is tapping! Great win for Wood!
