Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bubba Jay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bob Burnquist!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burnquist shoots in for a takedown but Jay shows good takedown defense.
Jay shoots and misses

and Burnquist counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Jay's guard now.
Burnquist controls from within his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Burnquist preventing the sweep.

Jay looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Burnquist passes into half guard.
Jay makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Jay.

Jay is looking for a triangle but Burnquist pushes his legs off easily.

Jay can't keep his opponent in guard - Burnquist advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Burnquist wants to pass the guard but Jay is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jay tries to get to full guard but Burnquist has control of the leg.
Burnquist lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Jay is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Burnquist pulls his head out easily.
Burnquist is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Jay works his way to full guard. Good work.
Jay is breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Burnquist drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Burnquist jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Burnquist not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Burnquist stands up from Jay's guard - Burnquist perhaps looking for a knockout.
Jay throws a head kick that misses

and Burnquist counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Burnquist trying to control the position from guard on top but Jay is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Burnquist passes into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jay wants to get back to full guard.
Jay gets back to full guard.
Jay keeping full guard, as Burnquist tries to pass.
Jay might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Burnquist trying to control but Jay is working from the bottom.
Jay manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Burnquist manages to get himself to full guard.
Burnquist lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Jay!

Burnquist lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Burnquist breaks from Jay's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Burnquist stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

Jay tries to keep at a distance but Burnquist has taken the fight into the clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Burnquist is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Jay gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Burnquist prevents Jay from breaking the clinch.

Burnquist pulls guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Burnquist dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Burnquist closes the distance and clinches.

Burnquist gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Burnquist trying to control from half guard but Jay is working away.
Jay throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Burnquist is tying to control. Jay wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Burnquist might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jay kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Jay moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Burnquist trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Burnquist is breathing heavily.

Burnquist stops Jay from standing up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Jay tries for a takedown but Burnquist circles away easily

and Burnquist counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Burnquist looking to pass the guard.
Burnquist is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Jay wants to stand but Burnquist is controlling the position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Burnquist accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Jay keeping full guard, as Burnquist tries to pass.

Burnquist sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Jay doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Burnquist paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Jay - great work!
