PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gunner Reid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Austin Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Gunner Reid!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Austin Scott!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Roger Salmon and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reid tries to bum rush Scott with a series of wild strikes but Scott uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Scott darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Reid tries to get to full guard but Scott has control of the leg.
Scott looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Reid keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Reid tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Scott manages to move to mount!
Reid wants to control but Scott is having none of it.
Scott takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Reid throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.

Scott wants to take Reid's back but he can't do it this time.
Scott controlling his opponent.

Scott with shots to the head and body - Reid looks very uncomfortable down there.
Scott connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Scott tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Reid tries to lock up and control but Scott gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Scott controlling his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Reid is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Scott controlling from the full mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Scott with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Reid with a poor takedown

and Scott counters by clinching up.
Reid really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Reid stalling in the clinch but Scott improves position.
Scott lands a left hand.

Scott manages to pull guard.
Reid wants to control from the top but Scott keeps moving.
Scott is pulling down on Reid's head to control his posture.
Reid has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Gunner Reid wasn't doing enough on the ground.
The fight stays on the outside here - Reid looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Scott shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Reid napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Reid takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

A control attempt from Reid but he's now mounted!
Scott content just to control the position here.

Reid wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Austin Scott has got the better of the ground game so far.
Scott controlling well, preventing Reid from escaping the position.
I would not like to be Reid right now.
Reid just trying to survive but Scott is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Reid is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Scott is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Reid trying to control the hands but Scott won't let him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Scott looking to break Reid's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Reid remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Scott will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Scott just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Austin Scott showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!



Scott shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Scott was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Scott thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Reid trying to control but Scott flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!
Scott is not going to allow Reid to sit and survive in this position.

Scott has good solid back control here.
Let's hope that Scott has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Reid has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.

Reid trying to control the hands but Scott won't let him.
Reid is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Scott biding his time, controlling Reid.
Scott gets his hands free as Reid looks to control.
Reid is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Scott slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Reid shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Scott sprawls well. Scott wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Reid gets slowly back to his feet.

Reid tries to sprawl but Scott drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Scott slows the pace down in half guard.
Reid misses with some strikes from the bottom.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Scott wants to pass the guard but Reid is defending well.

And that's the end of the fight!
Austin Scott comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Scott has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
