PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Davon Bess (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Don Juan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Juan has chosen Shine as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Juan shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Bess counters with an inside leg kick.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Bess.

and Juan counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Juan frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Juan jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Bess manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Bess tries to improve position but can't.
You can see the frustration on Bess's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Juan wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Bess, who protects the arm well.
Bess can't do much from the bottom here.

Juan is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Bess has escaped the position, nice work there.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Juan goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Bess has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Juan but great work by Bess.

Bess takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Bess content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Bess looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Bess seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Davon Bess.
Bess throws a low kick but it's checked well by Juan.

Juan tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Bess lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Juan has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Juan and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Juan stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Bess.

Davon Bess has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Don Juan.

Bess fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
That kick from Bess tenderised Juan's leg. Juan is trying to keep his angry face on.

and Bess counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.

Davon Bess dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Bess pushes Juan away with a front kick.
Davon Bess is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Bess controls Juan momentarily but Juan frees himself.

Juan wants to control from the top but Bess keeps moving.

Juan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Bess is refusing to be controlled, as Juan sits in half guard.
Juan wants to advance to full mount but Bess doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Juan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bess swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Juan passes Bess's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Bess is trying to maintain the position but Juan is very close to passing his half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Juan uses his free foot to push down on Bess's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Bess.
Juan prevents Bess from getting the reversal.
Juan is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Bess is in real trouble.

Juan is looking for a choke. Bess gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Bess manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Juan has his foot on Bess's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bess works his way back into a safe position though.

Juan is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Juan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bess can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Bess stays in close to Juan's body and controls the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

I would just about give that final round to Don Juan.
I think Juan has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
