PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Goran Spaten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Don Cerrone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Spaten kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Knockin Boots by Candyman. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Goran Spaten!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Don Cerrone!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Colin Fotheringham and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Spaten as Cerrone shoots in.
Spaten throws a sloppy head kick and Cerrone moves out of range easily.
Spaten lands a body shot.
The fight stays on the outside here - Spaten looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Both fighters circling a little - Spaten finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Spaten tries to clinch up.

Cerrone changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Spaten looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Spaten is trying to buck Cerrone off.

Cerrone thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Cerrone looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Spaten is avoiding damage well.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Don Cerrone wasn't active enough on the ground.
Spaten tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Goran Spaten seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Spaten is staying active underneath Cerrone, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cerrone wants to take a breather but Spaten is having none of it.

Cerrone is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Spaten is just riding it out for now. Cerrone eventually gives up the hold.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Cerrone connects with a nice short shot to Spaten's temple.

Cerrone looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Spaten throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cerrone is defended easily by Spaten.

No joy there for Spaten, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Cerrone escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Cerrone tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Spaten manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Cerrone changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Spaten tries to avoid it but Cerrone manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Spaten to the ground. Spaten escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Spaten doesn't manage to clinch there - Cerrone circles away.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cerrone shoots in for a double leg but Spaten sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Spaten loads up on a big right hand but Cerrone slips the punch.

Spaten moves into the clinch.
Cerrone tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Spaten with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
A head punch on the inside from Cerrone fails to land.
Cerrone drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Goran Spaten has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Don Cerrone is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Spaten lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.

I think Cerrone has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
