Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim Miller! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ted Smith! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Miller gets a takedown into half guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Smith is trying to maintain the position but Miller is very close to passing his half guard. Miller seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Miller lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Miller sitting and controlling from the half guard. Smith won't allow Miller to pass to mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Miller is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Smith has managed to free his arm - good work. Miller not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Miller is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Smith is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Smith wants to hold on but Miller pushes him away. Miller tries to control but Smith wriggling away. Miller lands a nice shot to the head. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Miller is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Smith doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Miller. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Miller pushes Smith up against the cage in a clinch. Smith trying to land knees to the body.
Smith wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Miller has him pressed against the cage. Smith with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Miller is trying to trip Smith. He has hold of a leg but Smith is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Miller persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Miller trying to control but Smith is working from the bottom. Smith is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Miller is aware though and is defending well. Miller tries to free his leg and advance position but Smith is retaining full guard.

Miller looking to pass the guard. Miller wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving. Smith is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Miller wants to get up but he can't break Smith's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Smith is trying to keep Miller in close.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Smith tries a head kick but it misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Miller shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Smith is trying to defend but Miller finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Smith tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Miller has advanced to mount. Uh oh. Miller tries to control but Smith wriggling away. Smith is bucking up trying to escape but Miller cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Miller controlling the pace for now. Miller lands a couple of good shots and Smith has given up his back, trying to escape the position! Smith looking very determined here, making life difficult for Miller.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Smith avoids the strikes from Miller. Miller throwing wild punches that miss their target. Miller has his opponent's back and is working for the choke. The referee is taking a good look at Smith as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Miller!
