Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chris Weidman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Big Jim! The judges for this bout are William Peck, Ian Loll and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Weidman wants to clinch but Jim slips to the side and Jim counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Jim using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Weidman has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Jim breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Weidman pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Jim back to the cage. Weidman follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. Jim keeps the fight on the outside. Weidman is looking to clinch. No joy there for Weidman, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Some wild striking there from Jim.
Weidman moves to clinch but Jim breaks away and Jim counters with a big head kick but Weidman shrugs it off. Weidman could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Jim misses with a double jab
and Weidman counters with a head kick. That will keep Jim thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Jim swinging wildly here.
Weidman moves in looking to clinch but Jim pushes him off. Jim circles away from the clinch attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jim throws a leg kick but Weidman moved away. Jim clinches. A short right from Jim. With the fighters up against the cage, Jim throws an elbow but misses. Weidman tries to pull guard but Jim forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Weidman tries to pull guard but Jim won't allow it.
Jim working some nice short punches in the clinch.
It looks like Chris Weidman has been cut. Jim pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Jim throws a left jab followed by a right to the body, Oh Weidman colapses and takes a barrage of punches from Jim as he moves to mount! the ref stops the fight and Weidman is left battered and dazed whilst Jim and his camp cheer!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Big Jim! Big Jim decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
