Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bob Sponge!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Steve Powell !
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Reed Andrews and Anthony Taglia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sponge bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Powell looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Powell is working to avoid the ground and pound but Sponge connects with a decent elbow.
Sponge just content to control the position.
Sponge working the body and head with strikes.
Sponge is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Sponge decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Powell tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Sponge counters with a single leg into guard. Powell didn't expect that.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sponge seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Powell can't keep his opponent in guard - Sponge advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Sponge trying to control the pace.
Sponge is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Powell is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
