PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Koby Hart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonathan Luz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Luz has chosen Krs One Step as his entrance music. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Jonathan Luz enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Koby Hart!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jonathan Luz!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Daniel Franklin and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Luz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hart but Hart pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Luz looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Luz throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Hart tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Luz is in Hart's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Luz tries to free his leg and advance position but Hart is retaining full guard.
Hart wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Hart striking off his back but it's not causing Luz any problems.
Luz tries to stand but Hart is controlling from the bottom.
Hart can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Luz controls the pace.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hart controlling Luz's posture.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Koby Hart wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Luz fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Koby Hart has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jonathan Luz.
Luz blocks a head kick by Hart.
Hart doesn't manage to clinch there - Luz circles away.
Hart fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Luz gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hart wants to control from the top but Luz keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hart postures up in Luz's guard and throws a big left but Luz blocks it.
Luz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Hart is looking to stand up but Luz won't let him.
Luz keeping full guard, as Hart tries to pass.
Luz controls Hart momentarily but Hart frees himself.
Hart has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Luz keeping moving, preventing Hart from controlling successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jonathan Luz.
A combination from Hart does no damage.
Hart misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Luz.
Jonathan Luz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hart thows a body shot but no joy.

Luz moves into range and clinches up with Hart.
Hart has Luz pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Luz manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Luz tries to pull guard but Hart won't allow it.
The referee is keeping an eye on Luz - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Hart's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Luz tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hart swivels and escapes.
Hart swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Luz tries to clinch but Hart is having none of it.
Hart takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Luz wants to clinch.

Luz takes the fight into the clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Luz working hard to break the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jonathan Luz will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Hart fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Luz to the ground. Hart is now in Luz's guard.

Luz has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hart can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Luz is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Hart looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Hart knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Luz on the ground.
Hart wants to pass the guard but Luz is keeping the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hart tries to stand but Luz is controlling from the bottom.
Hart controls from within his opponent's guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Koby Hart wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Hart misses with the combination.
Hart stuffs the takedown.

Luz rushes Hart and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Luz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hart swings widly with a right hand

and Luz holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Hart gets underhooks to prevent Luz's takedown attempt.

Luz pulls guard.

Luz has his foot on Hart's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hart works his way back into a safe position though.

Hart stands up and waves to Luz to follow him.
Jab by Hart.

Hart looking to score a takedown here. Luz is defending well but Hart drives through and ends up in Luz's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hart slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Luz manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hart manages to get himself to full guard.
Hart manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Hart controlling the pace for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Luz gets back to half guard.
Hart content to control rather than advance.
Luz trying to control here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Luz is pressing down on Hart's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Koby Hart dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Luz throws a head kick that misses.

Luz moves into range and clinches up with Hart.
Hart is trying to break the clinch but Luz has him pressed against the cage.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Hart is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Luz doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Luz goes for a takedown in the clinch but Hart prevents it.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Hart breaks from the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Luz shoots in but no luck this time.
Luz needs to keep his hands up - Hart had a free shot at his head there.
Luz tries a head kick but it misses.
Luz walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.


It looks like Jonathan Luz has been cut.
Luz shoots and misses
and Hart counters with a one-two to the body.
Koby Hart has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jonathan Luz.
Luz takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Hart looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Hart perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hart decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Luz keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hart is looking to clinch but Luz is avoiding it.
Luz shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Hart counters with a shoot takedown. Luz fights it but they end up in guard.
Hart stays in close to Luz's body and controls the position.
Hart wants to get up but he can't break Luz's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Koby Hart overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hart wants to control from the top but Luz keeps moving.
Hart lands a couple of elbows.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Hart's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Luz wants to sweep here but Hart controlling him for the moment.

Luz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hart doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hart manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Hart avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Hart decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Luz, up you get!

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Hart scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Luz wants to get back to his feet.
Luz is trying to improve his position.
Luz being controlled for a moment.

Hart stands up and we're back to a striking position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Koby Hart showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Hart has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
