Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mike Howard! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jonathan Devlin! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Daniel Cesar and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Devlin lands a left and a right that send Howard crashing to the mat, dazed. Devlin thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Devlin displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Howard. Mike Howard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Howard is defended easily by Devlin. Howard will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Howard. That's going to take a lot out of him. Howard shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Devlin avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Howard. Devlin kicks off Howard and gets to his feet. No luck with that takedown attempt from Howard. Howard shoots in but Devlin avoids the takedown attempt easily. No luck for Howard with that takedown attempt. Howard fails with the takedown and Devlin counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Knees to the body from Devlin.

Devlin lands a damaging elbow. Howard being controlled against the cage. Howard takes an elbow to the temple. Devlin lands a knee to the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! A short left from Devlin. Devlin unloads a knee to the mid-section. Howard lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh. Devlin connects with a nasty looking knee right to Howard's face.

Howard could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Devlin lands a nice elbow from the clinch. Devlin slowing the pace effectively.

Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Devlin. The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Jonathan Devlin. Devlin rushes Howard and presses him up against the cage. Howard takes a knee to the side of the body. Howard seems to have got his legs back now. Devlin lands with a short head shot on the inside. Devlin lands an elbow just above Howard 's eye. Knees to the body from Devlin.

Devlin gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head. Devlin lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Howard. Devlin throws a big uppercut that drops Howard! More strikes from Devlin and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Howard lies dazed against the cage as Devlin celebrates with his cornermen!

Jonathan Devlin decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
