Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Michal Cipao! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ari Sotaheimo! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Winston Howard and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sotaheimo scores with a shot to the body.
Sotaheimo lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Sotaheimo lands with a straight right. Cipao didn't see that one coming. Sotaheimo fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. The fight moves into the clinch position. Knees to the body from Sotaheimo.
This has been an exciting period of action! Cipao goes for a takedown attempt but Sotaheimo pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Sotaheimo gets in close and instigates a clinch. Sotaheimo lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Sotaheimo gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Cipao.
Cipao tries for a takedown. No joy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Michal Cipao. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cipao tries to score a body lock takedown but Sotaheimo shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Sotaheimo tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Sotaheimo misses with a knee strike.
Sotaheimo throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Cipao blocks it with crossed arms. Sotaheimo connects with a nasty looking knee right to Cipao's face.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sotaheimo breaks from the clinch.
Sotaheimo uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Cipao has time to react. Sotaheimo connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Cipao momentarily.
Ari Sotaheimo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Cipao dives in and grabs Sotaheimo's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sotaheimo pushes down on Cipao's head and hops out. Cipao is breathing heavily. Sotaheimo throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cipao. Sotaheimo thuds a left hand into Cipao's body. Sotaheimo lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Cipao backs up against the cage.
Cipao is rocked! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Cipao leaves his chin hanging out and Sotaheimo seizes the opportunity with an uppercut! Cipao crumbles to the floor in a heap, and the referee steps in and tends to the downed fighter! What a knockout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Ari Sotaheimo!
