Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mike Cain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcello Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cain comes to the cage accompanied by A Warrior's Call. Marcello Sanchez struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 171.7lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Mike Cain! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 11 - 0, fighting out of London, Marcello Sanchez! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Colin Fotheringham and Phil Schofield.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sanchez shoots in but Cain avoids the takedown attempt easily. Cain throws out a loose jab but Sanchez uses good head movement to avoid it. Sanchez throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Cain stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Sanchez connects with a body shot. Cain sizes up Sanchez with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
It looks like Marcello Sanchez has been cut. Cain lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. A jab from Cain misses. Cain throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Sanchez counters with a three punch combo that has Cain backing up. Cain nods at Sanchez to acknowledge the strikes. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Cain throws an off balance right hand
and Sanchez counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Cain is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Sanchez connects with a nice short shot to Cain's temple.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sanchez is keen to just control but Cain is a slippery customer. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Sanchez lands a nice short elbow. Sanchez throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Sanchez drops an elbow to the side of Cain's head. Cain is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Sanchez is working for a kimura but Cain is defending it quite comfortably.
Sanchez content to control rather than advance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sanchez thows a huge punch but Cain dodges it nicely.
Sanchez is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Cain has managed to free his arm - good work. Sanchez is looking for a kimura here.
Sanchez is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cain works his way to full guard. Good work. Cain bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sanchez's guard. Cain drops back looking for a leg! Sanchez is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sanchez manages to kick Cain off! Cain jumps back into Sanchez's guard. Cain stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sanchez swivels though and keeps the full guard. Cain throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cain is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Sanchez is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Sanchez has escaped and now he's on top! Cain controlling the position. Sanchez postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Cain wants to sweep but no luck. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sanchez controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Sanchez distracts Cain with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Marcello Sanchez dominated that round. The cut man is working on Marcello Sanchez's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Cain misses with a hook. Sanchez ducked under it nicely. Sanchez shoots in and bounces Cain off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Sanchez is sitting in close to Cain's body. Cain has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Sanchez is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Sanchez is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Cain.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Mike Cain! Our winner, Mike Cain, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
