The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mcneilly tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Szczecinski looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Szczecinski circles away from the clinch attempt.
Mcneilly could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Mcneilly tries to clinch but Szczecinski is having none of it. A momentary lapse in concentration from Szczecinski enables Mcneilly to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Szczecinski manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Mcneilly trying to control the position from guard on top but Szczecinski is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Szczecinski is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. The ref stands the fighters back up because Ryan Mcneilly just wasn't active enough. Mcneilly misses with a takedown attempt and Szczecinski counters with a right hand to the body. Szczecinski tries to sprawl but Mcneilly drives through with a takedown into half guard. Mcneilly trying to control the action but Szczecinski is working from the bottom. Mcneilly wants to stand up but Szczecinski has a hold of him and won't allow it. Mcneilly wants to lay and pray for a moment but Szczecinski keeps working. Szczecinski looks like he's trying to stand up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Szczecinski moves into full guard.
Mcneilly knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Szczecinski on the ground. Szczecinski keeping moving, preventing Mcneilly from controlling successfully. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We're going to have a standup here because Ryan Mcneilly wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Mcneilly misses with a takedown attempt and Szczecinski counters with an outside leg kick.
Szczecinski shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mcneilly manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Szczecinski lands a couple of decent looking shots. Szczecinski won't allow Mcneilly to sweep him here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Mcneilly striking off his back but it's not causing Szczecinski any problems. Szczecinski is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Szczecinski keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Mcneilly's head. Szczecinski pushing down on Mcneilly's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Mcneilly is looking to improve his position.
Mcneilly is trying to maintain the position but Szczecinski is very close to passing his half guard. Mcneilly might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Szczecinski looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mcneilly has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Szczecinski is working away from the top position though. Szczecinski works his way into full mount! Szczecinski looking to control and managing it successfully. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mcneilly is trying to reverse the position but instead Szczecinski has taken his back - oops! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Ryan Mcneilly will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Szczecinski ducks under a wild hook from Mcneilly. Mcneilly dives in and scores a takedown into Szczecinski's guard. Szczecinski tries to land a sweep but no joy. Szczecinski keeping moving, preventing Mcneilly from controlling successfully. Mcneilly trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Mcneilly trying to control but Szczecinski is working from the bottom. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Ryan Mcneilly has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Szczecinski moves into the clinch successfully.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Mcneilly tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Szczecinski smiles and moves away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Szczecinski throws a nice looking combination but Mcneilly bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Mcneilly fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Szczecinski to the ground. Mcneilly is now in Szczecinski's guard. Szczecinski lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Mcneilly! Mcneilly really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Mcneilly wants to control but Szczecinski is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Szczecinski landing strikes from the mount. Szczecinski breaks from Mcneilly's wrist control and lands an elbow. Mcneilly tries to reverse the position but Szczecinski maintains control. Mcneilly is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Szczecinski has taken his back! Szczecinski keeps control of the position as Mcneilly tries to break free.
Mcneilly is working hard here to advance position. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Mcneilly holding both Szczecinski 's hands and preventing any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Szczecinski is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish. Szczecinski lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Szczecinski keeps control of the position easily here as Mcneilly tries to buck him off.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mcneilly just trying to survive but Szczecinski is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish. Szczecinski is riding his opponent, not letting Mcneilly buck him off. Szczecinski is hanging on to Mcneilly's back as he tries to escape.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Mcneilly won't enjoy being in this position. Szczecinski looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Mcneilly is tapping - it's over boys! Szczecinski picks up the submission victory!
