PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steve Gonzalez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Magg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Magg has chosen Aint I - Young LA Ft T.I and Young Dro as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Magg circles away from the clinch attempt.
Magg fails with a takedown attempt.
Magg swats away the attempt to clinch by Gonzalez.
Steve Gonzalez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gonzalez gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Magg moves into the clinch.
Gonzalez gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Magg.
Gonzalez tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Gonzalez is trying to break free.
Magg wants a takedown.
Steve Gonzalez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason Magg.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Magg breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Gonzalez could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Gonzalez lands with an uppercut that bounces Magg off the cage and back into rage.

Magg gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Gonzalez regains guard.
Magg prevents Gonzalez from getting back to his feet.
Gonzalez has Magg pulled in close to control his posture.
Gonzalez trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Magg is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Gonzalez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Magg looks gassed!

Magg tries to stand and escape but Gonzalez is controlling the position.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Magg is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Magg passes into side control, despite Gonzalez's attempt to control the position.
Gonzalez is looking to reverse the position.
Magg wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gonzalez keeps working.
Gonzalez gets back to half guard.
Magg tries to pass to full mount but Gonzalez defends it.
Gonzalez wants to improve his position but Magg is controlling well.
Magg works his way into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Gonzalez tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

and Magg counters by moving into the clinch.
Magg can't get the takedown.

Gonzalez wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Magg has him pressed against the cage.

Magg is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Magg is on top in guard.

Magg might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Gonzalez kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Magg wants to pass the guard but Gonzalez is keeping the position.
Gonzalez tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Magg is stalling in the full guard.

Magg stands and steps away. Gonzalez gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Gonzalez has closed the distance and engaged Magg in a clinch.

Magg wants the takedown. Gonzalez is fighting it off but Magg persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Gonzalez's guard against the cage.
Magg seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Magg tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Magg has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Magg decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Horrible takedown by Gonzalez or perhaps it was just good defense by Magg which made him look bad.
Gonzalez takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Gonzalez can't keep his opponent in guard - Magg advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Magg wants to pass the guard but Gonzalez is defending well.
Gonzalez pushes Magg off looking to stand but Magg dives back in and keeps control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Magg looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Gonzalez controlling the position for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason Magg showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Gonzalez throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Magg.
Gonzalez shoots in but Magg avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Gonzalez connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Gonzalez looks to clinch

and Magg counters by moving into the clinch.

Magg drags the fight down to the ground.
Gonzalez wants to control from the top but Magg keeps moving.
Gonzalez wants to pass the guard but Magg is keeping the position.
Gonzalez postures up.
Gonzalez tries to free his leg and advance position but Magg is retaining full guard.
Gonzalez missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Magg controls Gonzalez momentarily but Gonzalez frees himself.

Magg is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Gonzalez rolls with it to try and escape but Magg cranks on the arm and Gonzalez is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
