Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jerry Spotwood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Don Bassito (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jerry Spotwood!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Don Bassito!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Reed Andrews and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bassito fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Bassito misses with a series of wild punches.

Spotwood bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Bassito tries to buck Spotwood off but Spotwood is having none of it.

Spotwood tries for a kimura but Bassito is defending well.
Bassito is looking to regain half guard here but Spotwood keeps moving and retains side control.

Spotwood is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Bassito has escaped the position, nice work there.
Bassito is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Spotwood scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Bassito to see if he's OK.
Bassito wants to get back to his feet but Spotwood drags him back down.
Spotwood is looking to take a break and control but Bassito is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Spotwood throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Spotwood thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Bassito manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

It looks like Bassito is going to stand back up.
Spotwood is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Bassito is stalling here. Spotwood is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Bassito seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Spotwood has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Bassito is not content to let Spotwood control the position.

Bassito stops Spotwood from passing to mount.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Bassito misses with a straight left.
A jab from Bassito finds it's way through Spotwood's defenses.
Bassito loads up on a big right hand but Spotwood slips the punch.
Bassito looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Bassito connects with a looping right hand.
Spotwood looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bassito is fending him off so far but Spotwood persists. Nope, Bassito circles away and we're back to standing.
Spotwood uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Bassito.

Spotwood shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Spotwood is breathing heavily.
Spotwood is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Spotwood trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Bassito is trying to escape the mount.

Spotwood working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Bassito tries to close the distance and clinch up but Spotwood swats him away and circles back towards the center.
A jab from Bassito does it's job there.


It looks like Jerry Spotwood has been cut.
Bassito waves his right hand out infront of him, looking to distract Spotwood. Oh, he's unloaded a beast of a left hand - it worked! He's dropped Spotwood to the canvas! Can he finish him!?
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Spotwood escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bassito gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Spotwood has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bassito can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Spotwood is looking for a triangle but Bassito pushes his legs off easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bassito seems keen to control Spotwood's posture.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bassito is on top in guard.
Bassito would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Bassito avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Spotwood escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bassito gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Spotwood showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Bassito.
Bassito fails with an attempt to clinch.
Bassito lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Bassito moves in looking to clinch but Spotwood pushes him off.
Spotwood will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

enabling Spotwood to counter with a crisp jab.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Bassito tries to clinch up but Spotwood circles away and keeps his distance.
Bassito throws a series of punches but Spotwood moves out of range.
Bassito scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Bassito tries for a takedown but Spotwood sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Don Bassito showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Spotwood tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Spotwood has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Bassito is pushing Spotwood's head away, looking to escape. Spotwood manages to hold on to the position though.

Spotwood decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Spotwood is working for a kimura but Bassito is defending it quite comfortably.

Spotwood is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Bassito to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.

Spotwood thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bassito is trying to control but can't.
Bassito is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Spotwood avoids the head kick by Bassito.
Bassito lands a glancing blow to the side of Spotwood's head.
No joy there for Bassito, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Spotwood misses with a looping left.
Bassito connects with a jab.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jerry Spotwood showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Spotwood has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
