Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hector Ross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rey Mesterio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ross comes to the cage accompanied by Here Comes the Boom-Nelly. Hector Ross could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Rey Mesterio's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mesterio walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Ross tries to clinch up. Mesterio has managed to clinch.
Ross lands a knee to the head.
It looks like Rey Mesterio has been cut. Mesterio ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Mesterio no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Ross will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Ross stands up over Mesterio, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. This has been an exciting period of action! Ross throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Mesterio preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Ross postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Mesterio manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ross manages to get himself to full guard.
Mesterio trying to control but Ross is working from the bottom. Mesterio stays in close to Ross's body and controls the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ross is looking to stand up but Mesterio isn't so interested in that idea.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mesterio missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Ross preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Ross keeping moving, preventing Mesterio from controlling successfully.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Rey Mesterio. Mesterio feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Mesterio throws a strike but Ross rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Ross in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. That's two minutes gone in the round. Ross is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Mesterio tries to land a sweep but no joy. Mesterio has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Mesterio is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ross is aware though and is defending well. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Ross throwing strikes from guard but Mesterio blocks nicely. Mesterio trying to keep a closed guard but Ross is proving a slippery customer.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ross accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Mesterio wants to sweep but no luck. Ross has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Ross is in close to Mesterio's body, working some short punches and elbows. Ross working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Ross postures up in Mesterio's guard and throws a big left but Mesterio blocks it. Mesterio trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Ross throws an elbow that misses. Mesterio uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Ross's guard. Nice move by Mesterio! Mesterio prevents Ross from getting back to his feet. Ross is breathing heavily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ross is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mesterio is aware though and is defending well. Mesterio slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Mesterio wants to stand but Ross has his arm trapped. Mesterio remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Mesterio has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Ross is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Mesterio yanks on the arm and Ross is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Mesterio.
