PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joe Vita (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alvin Aguilar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Aguilar has chosen Drector's Cut by Kamikazee as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Vita!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alvin Aguilar!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Wesley Smith and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Aguilar looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Aguilar is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Alvin Aguilar.

Aguilar bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Vita sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Aguilar wants to free his trapped foot but Vita is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Vita tries to roll over but Aguilar keeps him under control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Alvin Aguilar.

Aguilar decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Vita is trying to maintain the position but Aguilar is very close to passing his half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Aguilar looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Alvin Aguilar was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Vita gets caught napping as Aguilar dives in and scores a takedown. Vita manages to retain guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vita is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Aguilar not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Joe Vita just wasn't active enough.
Vita avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Aguilar scores with a jab. Vita acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Vita gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Aguilar to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Aguilar stays in close to Vita's body and controls the position.

Aguilar shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Vita's guard.

Horrible takedown by Vita or perhaps it was just good defense by Aguilar which made him look bad.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Aguilar feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Vita wants to sweep but no luck.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Nice sprawl there from Vita as Aguilar shoots in.

Aguilar misses with a hook. Vita ducked under it nicely.
Vita slaps away a takedown attempt from Aguilar, before circling back to the center of the mat.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Alvin Aguilar hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Aguilar throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Vita tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Aguilar is in Vita's guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Alvin Aguilar hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Aguilar shoots for a double leg takedown but Vita sprawls well. He's pushed Aguilar's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Joe Vita has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alvin Aguilar.
Aguilar closes the distance and clinches up with Vita, looking for a takedown. Aguilar pushes Vita against the cage but Vita circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Vita is on top in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Vita working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Vita wanted to stand there but Aguilar had control of the position.

Vita trying to control the position from guard on top but Aguilar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Vita throws an elbow that misses. Aguilar uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Vita's guard. Nice move by Aguilar!
Vita wants to stand up but Aguilar is controlling him.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

We're going to have a standup here because Joe Vita wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Vita is trying to pull guard but Aguilar has him pressed against the cage.

Aguilar goes for a takedown attempt but Vita pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Vita tries for a takedown but Aguilar sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Aguilar shoots in looking for a takedown but Vita manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Aguilar's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Alvin Aguilar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
