Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between New York (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Connor Gertje (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Connor Gertje will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Connor Gertje!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Reed Andrews and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
York throws a series of punches but Gertje moves out of range.
Gertje with a poor takedown

and York holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Gertje manages to break the clinch.
York misses the shot to the body.
York closes the distance but Gertje moves to the side

and Gertje counters by clinching up.

Gertje pulls guard effortlessly.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gertje wants to get back to his feet but York is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
York slips nicely into half guard.
York tries to pass to full mount but Gertje defends it.
Gertje keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Gertje kicks off York and gets to his feet.
York misses the body punch

and Gertje counters by clinching up.
York is trying to drag Gertje to the mat but Gertje just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Gertje tries for a takedown. No joy.

Gertje tries to score a body lock takedown but York shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
New York has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Connor Gertje.

Gertje is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Gertje tries to circle away but York has him pinned against the cage.

Gertje is looking for a takedown up against the cage. York gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
York changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Gertje fights it off and pushes away nicely.
York doesn't manage to clinch there - Gertje circles away.

York lands some shots froms side control.
York is looking to take a break and control but Gertje is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

York wants to control but Gertje is keeping him busy.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gertje tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

York is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Gertje defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! York's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


York fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Gertje closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Gertje fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging York to the ground. Gertje is now in York's guard.
York has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
York keeping moving, preventing Gertje from controlling successfully.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
York throws a sloppy head kick and Gertje moves out of range easily.
Gertje tries to score with a low kick but York moves his leg out of the way.
Gertje gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and York counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by York.

York is pushing down on Gertje's leg trying to pass to half guard. Gertje is fighting to maintain full guard but York has managed to sneak the leg through.
York thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Gertje's head.
York is taking a breather. Gertje says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Gertje is trying to stand up here but York is controlling him well.
York wants to take a breather but Gertje is having none of it.
York tries to pass to full mount but Gertje defends it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
York winds up and cracks Gertje with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Gertje is looking to get back to is feet but York passes into side control.
Gertje is breathing heavily.
York landing strikes.

Gertje wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
York sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Gertje is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
New York overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
York is looking to take a break and control but Gertje is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
York lands a decent elbow from side control.
Gertje takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Gertje is not content to let York control the position.

York wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gertje keeps working.
York throwing strikes but Gertje manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
York tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Gertje looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
York holds on to Gertje's head and controls the position momentarily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

New York dominated that second round.
That's time! York's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


York moves to clinch but Gertje breaks away

and Gertje counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Gertje can't get the takedown.

Gertje has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but York regains guard immediately.
York pulls Gertje in to control the position.

York keeping moving, preventing Gertje from controlling successfully.
York tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Gertje is fighting to break York's control of his arms but York is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Gertje gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows York to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Gertje is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
York wants to control from the top but Gertje keeps moving.
York lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Gertje preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

York looking to sit in guard and control but Gertje gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
York looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gertje is one step ahead there.

York is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
York trying to mount his opponent but Gertje defends it.

York wants to pass to mount but Gertje is defending the position.
York working the head and body with strikes.
Gertje takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
York takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
York passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Gertje!

New York showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for York, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A relieved looking New York thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
