PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rob Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brad Fickett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stone comes to the cage accompanied by Undead - Hollywood Undead. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rob Stone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Brad Fickett!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fickett stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Fickett drives through with a takedown into guard.
Stone is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Stone pushes Fickett off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Stone shoots in for a takedown but Fickett shows good takedown defense.

Fickett darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Fickett tries to pass the half guard into mount. Stone knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Fickett is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Stone defends it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fickett trying to mount his opponent but Stone defends it.
Stone is trying to maintain the position but Fickett is very close to passing his half guard.

Stone manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Stone stuffs the takedown.
Fickett throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Stone shoots in and drives through. Fickett sprawls well.
Stone is breathing heavily.
Fickett shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Stone as he avoids it easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Fickett gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Stone counters by moving into the clinch.
Rob Stone has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brad Fickett.
Stone prevents a takedown attempt there.
Fickett tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Stone just stands there and leans against the cage.
Fickett is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Stone gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Fickett goes for a takedown in the clinch but Stone prevents it.

Stone showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Fickett.
Stone tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Fickett swivels and escapes.
Fickett tries for a takedown but Stone sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Fickett changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Stone looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Fickett tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Fickett has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Fickett trying to control the position but Stone is working away.

Fickett is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Stone has escaped the position, nice work there.
Stone is pushing Fickett's head away, looking to escape. Fickett manages to hold on to the position though.
Fickett is chipping away with strikes.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Stone is trying to control Fickett's posture but Fickett avoids it.
Stone is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Stone is looking to control Fickett's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Stone avoid being mounted?
Stone is not content to let Fickett control the position.
Fickett tries to stand but can't do so whilst Stone controls his leg.
Fickett thows a huge punch but Stone dodges it nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brad Fickett dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Stone misses with a takedown

and Fickett counters by clinching up.
Fickett misses with an elbow strike.
Fickett is trying to break the clinch but Stone has him pressed against the cage.

Stone turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Stone manages to end up in side control.
Fickett regains half guard.
Fickett tries to get to full guard but Stone has control of the leg.
Stone wants to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Fickett is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Stone's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Stone's back!

Stone turns into Fickett and is now in his guard.

Fickett looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Fickett tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Stone passes Fickett's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Fickett slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Fickett wants to stand and escape but Stone is having none of it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Stone stands up from Fickett's guard - Stone perhaps looking for a knockout.
Fickett rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Stone moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Rob Stone is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Fickett shoots in but Stone avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Stone is looking to slow Fickett down with leg kicks.
Fickett gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Stone counters with a single leg into guard. Fickett didn't expect that.
Stone is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Stone decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Fickett, up you get!

Fickett shoots and misses
and Stone counters with an inside leg kick.
Rob Stone has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brad Fickett.
Fickett shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Stone but Stone pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Fickett tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Stone counters with a series of strikes. Fickett will be more careful next time no doubt.

Fickett is still in real trouble! Can Stone finish him?
Stone is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Fickett controls Stone momentarily but Stone frees himself.

Fickett has his foot on Stone's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Stone works his way back into a safe position though.
Fickett seems to have recovered his senses.

Fickett is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Fickett is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Fickett gets caught flat footed, as Stone shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Stone looking to sit in guard and control but Fickett gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Fickett wants to control from the top but Stone keeps moving.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Fickett tries to pass to full mount but Stone defends it.

Fickett is working for a submission of some sort.
Stone is looking for a sweep. Fickett is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Fickett is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Stone doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Fickett.

Fickett is thwarting Stone's attempts to control the position.
Fickett wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stone keeps working.

Stone is looking to escape.
Fickett is pressing down on Stone's thigh, looking to free his foot. Stone is holding on for now.

Fickett is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Stone has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Fickett is working away from the top position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Stone decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Fickett works his way to full guard. Good work.

Fickett has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Stone can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Rob Stone.
Well Stone has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
