PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Shamrock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shamrock's entrance music is Rockstar. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chuck Liddell!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shamrock shoots in for a takedown but Liddell shows good takedown defense.
Shamrock shoots in and drives through. Liddell sprawls well.
Shamrock shoots in for a takedown but Liddell shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Shamrock. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Shamrock shoots in but no luck this time.
Shamrock shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Liddell as he jumps to the side.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Liddell scores with a sloppy right hand. Shamrock should have avoided that one.
Liddell fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Shamrock.
Shamrock is breathing heavily.

Liddell clinches up with Shamrock and pushes him back against the cage.
Shamrock wants to break free but Liddell has control.
Liddell has had enough of the clinch but Shamrock keeps him there for the moment.

Shamrock fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Liddell wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Liddell breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Liddell manages to break the clinch.
Liddell is looking to clinch but Shamrock is avoiding it.

Liddell drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Liddell must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Shamrock is trying to control but can't.
Liddell throwing shots but Shamrock is blocking nicely.
Shamrock is staying active underneath Liddell, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Liddell is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Shamrock doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Liddell.
Shamrock wants to improve his position but Liddell is controlling well.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Shamrock doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Liddell cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Shamrock fails with the takedown.
Liddell tries to clinch but Shamrock is having none of it.
Shamrock throws a head kick that misses.
Liddell misses with the combination.
Shamrock shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Liddell pinned against the cage. Liddell gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Shamrock throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Liddell's waist but Liddell gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Shamrock off to one side.
Nice body kick from Liddell.
Shamrock tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Shamrock shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Liddell as he avoids it easily.

and Liddell counters with a series of strikes. Shamrock will be more careful next time no doubt.

and Liddell counters with a two punch combo.

Liddell has Shamrock up against the cage in a clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Shamrock tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Shamrock fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Shamrock could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Shamrock landing knees to the head.
Liddell wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chuck Liddell dominated that round.
That's time! Shamrock's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


The fighters circling - Liddell throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Liddell wants to break the clinch but can't.
Liddell wants to get back to striking at distance but Shamrock won't allow it.
The is referee keeping an eye on Liddell - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Shamrock tries to stall but Liddell uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Liddell gets underhooks to prevent Shamrock's takedown attempt.

Shamrock keeps control of Liddell as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Shamrock manages to pull guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Shamrock has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Liddell escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Liddell!
Liddell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shamrock. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Liddell laying and praying for a moment but Shamrock takes advantage and regains half guard.

Shamrock actively working from the bottom here.
Shamrock works his way to full guard. Good work.
Liddell wants to control from the top but Shamrock keeps moving.

Liddell stands up from Shamrock's guard - Liddell perhaps looking for a knockout.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Shamrock.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Liddell moves into the clinch.
Liddell wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Shamrock has him pressed against the cage.

Shamrock changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Liddell fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Shamrock shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Shamrock was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Liddell is looking to get to half guard.

Shamrock working for a guillotine from mount but Liddell is in no mood to give up.
Liddell is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

Shamrock trying to control but he's not successful this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shamrock is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Shamrock is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Liddell working to try and regain half guard.
Shamrock with shots to the head and body - Liddell looks very uncomfortable down there.

Shamrock has hold of Liddell's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Liddell manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Liddell tries to reverse the position but Shamrock maintains control.
Liddell is in a horrible position here. Shamrock smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Liddell tries to buck Shamrock off so he can stand up but Shamrock has got his back now - this could be big trouble! He's slapped on a rear naked choke that looks really tight! Liddell falls backwards, slamming Shamrock to the mat but Shamrock holds on tight! Liddell is forced to tap and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Mark Shamrock!
