The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. Sandoval avoids a kick to the body.
Silva fails with a takedown attempt. Silva shoots in for a double leg but Sandoval sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Silva throws a head kick but Sandoval moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sandoval slaps away a takedown attempt from Silva, before circling back to the center of the mat. Sonny Sandoval has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anderson Silva. Silva throws a nice looking combination but Sandoval bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

A looping hook to the body misses from Silva. Sandoval does a little dance to reset his feet. Horrible takedown by Silva or perhaps it was just good defense by Sandoval which made him look bad. Silva throws a left and a right that both miss
enabling Sandoval to counter with a crisp jab. Silva fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Silva should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Sandoval keeps the fight on the outside. Silva fails with an attempt to clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Silva goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Silva shoots in but Sandoval avoids the takedown attempt easily. Silva looks winded! Silva closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sandoval circles away. Silva fails to land the takedown. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Anderson Silva dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Silva darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Silva controlling the action here. Sandoval wants to control but Silva is keeping busy and won't allow it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Sonny Sandoval wasn't doing enough on the ground. Silva thows a body shot but no joy. Silva lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Sandoval circles away quickly and effectively. Silva throws a left and a right that both miss
and Sandoval counters with a straight right hand. Silva tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sandoval swivels and escapes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Silva shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sandoval but Sandoval pushes him off and we're back to square one. Silva is breathing heavily. Silva swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
enabling Sandoval to counter with a crisp jab. Silva shoots for a double leg takedown but Sandoval sprawls well. He's pushed Silva's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Sonny Sandoval has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anderson Silva. Silva swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Sandoval counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Silva shoots in for a takedown but Sandoval shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Silva looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Anderson Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Silva shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sandoval defends it nicely. Silva pulls out of a head kick attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. No luck for Silva with that takedown attempt. Silva throws a combination that misses and Sandoval counters with a lovely straight right hand! Sandoval ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Sandoval stuffs the takedown. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Anderson Silva will probably get the nod - 10:9. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Silva has eaten all the pies! A telegraphed takedown attempt from Silva is defended easily by Sandoval. Sandoval leaves Silva with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Sonny Sandoval has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anderson Silva. Silva takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's one minute gone in the round. Silva falls off balance throwing a combination
and Silva takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Silva gets the takedown into side control. Sandoval is pushing Silva's head away, looking to escape. Silva manages to hold on to the position though. Sandoval is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Silva off and has taken his back! Sandoval controls the action.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Silva trying to control the hands but Sandoval breaks the grip. Silva tries to escape the position.
Sandoval will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Sonny Sandoval has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Silva is looking to clinch. Nice sprawl there from Sandoval as Silva shoots in.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Silva tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sandoval sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Silva somewhat. Sandoval is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. Silva closes the distance and clinches. Sandoval has Silva pressed against the cage, preventing Silva from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Silva breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sonny Sandoval has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Anderson Silva is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Silva tries to score with a low kick but Sandoval moves his leg out of the way.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Anderson Silva. Well Silva has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
