Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Luke Deans! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Paul Elmar! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Deans shoots in and gets a takedown into Elmar's guard. Deans connects with a couple of short punches. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Deans stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Elmar swivels though and keeps the full guard. Deans stopping the sweep attempt from Elmar. Elmar trying to keep a closed guard but Deans is proving a slippery customer.
Deans content to stall in guard here. Deans is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Deans trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Elmar wants to get back to his feet but Deans is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Elmar with a couple of shots from the bottom there - nothing Deans can't handle though.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Elmar not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Deans scoring with punches to the head and body. Elmar is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Elmar is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Deans avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Deans throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Elmar was covering up waiting for the punch and Deans finishes the takedown easily into guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Elmar is trying to control the position but Deans postures up. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Elmar throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. Elmar looking for a sweep. Not yet Elmar, not yet. Elmar is looking for a triangle but Deans pushes his legs off easily.

Deans works a leg free and moves into half guard. Deans prevents Elmar from improving his position. Elmar keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Deans missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Elmar throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Still in half guard, Deans seems content to control. Elmar is looking to improve his position.

He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Elmar is pressing down on Deans's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Elmar is trying to keep Deans in close.

He's managed to get a loose triangle. Deans doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Deans manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Elmar being controlled here, momentarily. Deans is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Elmar wants to stand but Deans is controlling the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Deans content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Elmar is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Deans wants to pass the guard but Elmar is keeping the position. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Deans keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Elmar's head. Deans throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Elmar works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Elmar keeping moving, preventing Deans from controlling successfully. Deans not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Elmar is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Deans has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Deans working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Elmar keeping moving, preventing Deans from controlling successfully. Elmar looking for a guillotine here but Deans defends easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Luke Deans dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Deans drives through with a takedown into guard. Deans postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Deans stops Elmar from standing up. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Elmar holds on and takes a little breather. Deans would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Luke Deans overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Elmar trying to control the position.
Deans distracts Elmar with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Deans postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Deans prevents Elmar from getting back to his feet. Deans is working Elmar over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Deans missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
