Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Juan Gonzalez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Maxwell Alexander! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alexander throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Alexander throws a body punch but Gonzalez moves out of range. Gonzalez scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Gonzalez tries to pass to full mount but Alexander defends it. Alexander wants to get back to his feet. Gonzalez is looking to take a break and control but Alexander is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Alexander is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Gonzalez tries to pass to full mount but Alexander defends it. Gonzalez is trying to control the action in half guard but Alexander is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Gonzalez content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Juan Gonzalez wasn't doing enough on the ground. Gonzalez fails with a takedown attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gonzalez moves in looking to clinch but Alexander pushes him off. Alexander leaves Gonzalez with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Alexander tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gonzalez was well out of range. Poor timing from Alexander. Alexander swats away the attempt to clinch by Gonzalez. Alexander shoots for a takedown but Gonzalez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Juan Gonzalez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Gonzalez wants to clinch. Alexander swings for the body but Gonzalez moves out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alexander misses with a takedown attempt - Gonzalez sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Gonzalez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Juan Gonzalez. That's going to take a lot out of him. Alexander misses with a jab, cross combination.

Gonzalez thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Gonzalez trying to control the action but Alexander is working from the bottom. Gonzalez decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Alexander. Gonzalez throws a shot to the body.

Alexander misses the shot to the body. Alexander tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Gonzalez paws at him with a jab and circles away. Gonzalez pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Alexander misses with a few strikes there.
Gonzalez fails to land the takedown. Gonzalez gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Alexander counters with a right hand to the body. Alexander tries for a takedown but Gonzalez circles away easily and Gonzalez counters with a nice double leg into side control. Alexander won't be happy with that. Alexander looks winded! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Gonzalez trying to control the action but Alexander is working from the bottom. Gonzalez wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Alexander, who protects the arm well. Gonzalez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Alexander sprawls well. Alexander wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gonzalez gets slowly back to his feet. Alexander tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Gonzalez manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Alexander fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Alexander thuds his right hand into Gonzalez's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Gonzalez gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Alexander to score an easy takedown into full guard. Alexander is in close to Gonzalez's body, working some short punches and elbows. Alexander advances position into side control!
That's one minute gone in the round. Alexander lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Gonzalez wants to get back to his feet but Alexander drags him back down. Juan Gonzalez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Alexander lands an elbow. Gonzalez is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Alexander asserts his dominance and retains side control. Alexander tries to advance to mount but can't.

Alexander throwing strikes but missing. Gonzalez is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Alexander is controlling him. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Gonzalez looking for a sweep. Not yet Gonzalez, not yet. Gonzalez manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

That's three minutes gone in the round. Gonzalez jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Alexander is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Alexander and Gonzalez has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Alexander accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Alexander works his way back into a safe position though. Alexander works a leg free and moves into half guard. Maxwell Alexander seems to be getting the better of the standup. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Gonzalez shoots in but no luck this time. Gonzalez keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Alexander looks for a takedown but Gonzalez sprawls well. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Gonzalez lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Gonzalez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Gonzalez showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Alexander.

Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Gonzalez escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Alexander shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Gonzalez as he jumps to the side. The fight moves into the clinch position. Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.

Gonzalez wants to stand and escape but Alexander is having none of it. Alexander lands a couple of elbows. Gonzalez throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Gonzalez looking for submissions off his back. That's going to take a lot out of Maxwell Alexander. Gonzalez shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Alexander manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Gonzalez drops back looking for a leg! Alexander is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Alexander manages to kick Gonzalez off! Gonzalez jumps back into Alexander's guard. Alexander is looking to stand up but Gonzalez isn't so interested in that idea.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Juan Gonzalez. I think Gonzalez has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
