Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Vic Rattlehead! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chris Weidman! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Yves DeLean and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rattlehead wants to clinch up but Weidman keeps it at a distance. Weidman fails to land with a series of punches.
Rattlehead closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Rattlehead lands in his opponent's guard. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Weidman keeping full guard, as Rattlehead tries to pass. Weidman keeping moving, preventing Rattlehead from controlling successfully. Rattlehead working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Rattlehead wants to control from the top but Weidman keeps moving. Weidman utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Rattlehead could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Weidman has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rattlehead can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Rattlehead wants to control from the top but Weidman keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Weidman looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Rattlehead has picked Weidman up and slammed him! Weidman can't keep hold of the triangle and Rattlehead manages to pass to side control! Weidman being controlled for a moment. Weidman is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Rattlehead off and has taken his back! Rattlehead wants to control his opponent's hands but Weidman gets his hands free. Weidman is persistently looking for the submission but Rattlehead is defending it well.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Weidman has the hooks in. Rattlehead is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. Rattlehead really must keep his cool here. He's controlling one of Weidman's hands and whilst he does that, he's got a chance of escaping the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Weidman working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Rattlehead is doing well to defend. Weidman seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Rattlehead is forced to tap and this one is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Chris Weidman!
