Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Boda Tau! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ignat Kaigorodov! The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Nard Betker and Albert Achterberg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kaigorodov drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Kaigorodov loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Kaigorodov throws a big right hand that misses. Kaigorodov pushes down on Tau's leg and manages to get into half guard. Kaigorodov not landing any meaningful shots this time. Kaigorodov is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Kaigorodov throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Tau keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Kaigorodov not landing any meaningful shots this time. Kaigorodov stops Tau from getting back to his feet.
Kaigorodov thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Kaigorodov seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Tau wants to get back to full guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Kaigorodov is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Kaigorodov lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Tau on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kaigorodov is looking for a kimura but Tau is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kaigorodov to get the leverage. Kaigorodov seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Tau regains full guard. Nicely done. Kaigorodov with a flurry of punches that miss. Tau tries to strike from the bottom.
Kaigorodov won't allow Tau to get back to his feet. Kaigorodov in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Kaigorodov must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Tau is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Tau lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Kaigorodov is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Tau's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Tau's back! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Tau rolls, trying to escape but Kaigorodov keeps control of the position.
Kaigorodov punches Tau on the ear. Kaigorodov gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes. Kaigorodov is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Tau up.
Kaigorodov controlling well, preventing Tau from escaping the position.
Kaigorodov is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Tau has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Kaigorodov.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tau avoids the strikes from Kaigorodov. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Kaigorodov.
Kaigorodov scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
Tau is rocked! Tau is trying to get back to his feet but Kaigorodov has full control of the position and if anything, Tau has just worked his way into a worse spot. Oh Tau is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Tau covers up after that shot from Kaigorodov.
Kaigorodov lands a series of strikes from the back and Tau goes limp! The ref jumps in to save him!
