The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Shields. No joy for Smith on that attempt.
Colton Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shields throws a nice head kick!

Smith gets caught flat footed, as Shields shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Smith dodges the ground and pound from Shields.
Shields misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Shields works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Shields is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Smith has escaped the position, nice work there.

Shields wants to control but Smith is keeping him busy.

Shields is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Smith looks calm but he's in trouble here. Shields gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Smith is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Shields lets go of the hold and Smith can pop his arm back in it's socket.
