Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Roman Yakimyuk! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
15 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Todd Flanders! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Steve Erwin and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Yakimyuk is looking to clinch. Yakimyuk thows a body shot but no joy. A big right from Flanders misses. Roman Yakimyuk seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Yakimyuk stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Flanders. Flanders looks to land a body kick but Yakimyuk moved away. Nice body kick there by Flanders. Yakimyuk thows a body shot but no joy. Flanders jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Yakimyuk fails in his attempt to clinch. Flanders throws a nice outside leg kick. An inside leg kick lands from Flanders. Flanders ducks under a wild hook from Yakimyuk. Yakimyuk wants to clinch up but Flanders keeps it at a distance. Yakimyuk throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Flanders lands a front kick. Flanders tries a head kick but it misses.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Yakimyuk lands a body shot.
Flanders wants to slow Yakimyuk down by chopping away at his legs. Yakimyuk avoids the head kick by Flanders.
That's one minute gone in the round. Thud! ouch! good body kick from Flanders - that will leave a mark!
Flanders is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Yakimyuk misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Flanders.
Flanders connects with a leg kick. Yakimyuk looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Yakimyuk misses with a low kick. Yakimyuk throws a low kick but it's checked well by Flanders. Flanders throws a leg kick but Yakimyuk checks it. Flanders finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Flanders bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Yakimyuk throws a low kick, looking for Flanders's leg but Flanders calmly moves out of range. Flanders tests Yakimyuk's chin there with a solid looking shot. Flanders misses with a low kick.
Flanders shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Good standup being displayed there by Yakimyuk as he connects with a hook. Flanders throws a push kick but Yakimyuk slaps the foot to one side. Yakimyuk lands a nice looking body shot.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Yakimyuk takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Yakimyuk lands a jab. Flanders showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Yakimyuk.
Flanders buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Flanders connects with a leg kick. Yakimyuk looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Flanders throws a front kick that sends Yakimyuk stumbling back into the cage. Yakimyuk paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. A nice leg kick lands there from Flanders. Yakimyuk tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Flanders was well out of range. Poor timing from Yakimyuk. A bone on bone clash there as Yakimyuk blocks the leg kick.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Flanders checks a leg kick. Flanders goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Yakimyuk sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs. Yakimyuk closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Flanders pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. A bone on bone clash there as Yakimyuk blocks the leg kick.
Flanders dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Yakimyuk. That did some damage! Flanders throws a body kick that misses. Yakimyuk is looking to wear down Flanders with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Yakimyuk throws a hook to the side of Flanders's head but Flanders sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Yakimyuk will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body. Flanders wants to slow Yakimyuk down by chopping away at his legs. Yakimyuk misses with a hook. Flanders misses with a low kick.
Yakimyuk throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Yakimyuk throws a chopping leg kick but Flanders manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Flanders's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Yakimyuk connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Flanders scrambles back to his feet. Yakimyuk connects with the punch.
Flanders is rocked! Yakimyuk misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Flanders is still on wobbly legs! Can Yakimyuk finish him? Sloppy strikes from Yakimyuk. Those never looked like landing. Yakimyuk looking to land some kicks to the body here.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Yakimyuk scores with a kick to the midsection. Yakimyuk throws a low kick, looking for Flanders's leg but Flanders calmly moves out of range. Flanders has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Flanders there as he acknowledges the shot. Yakimyuk misses with an uppercut.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Yakimyuk tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Flanders manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Yakimyuk misses the shot to the body. Flanders is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Yakimyuk. Yakimyuk takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
A head kick misses from Flanders. The crowd cheers as Yakimyuk lands an impressive looking overhand right. Flanders doesn't seem phased though. It's a brutal combination of punches from Yakimyuk! Flanders is backing up but he can't get away as Yakimyuk lands with one final shot to the jaw that drops Flanders and ends the fight. Great knockout.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Roman Yakimyuk! Our winner, Roman Yakimyuk, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
