PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eddie Fatu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Icarus Ritter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fatu's entrance music is Umaga. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Eddie Fatu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Icarus Ritter!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Jeff Smith and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Fatu or perhaps it was just good defense by Ritter which made him look bad.
Fatu shoots in and drives through. Ritter sprawls well.
Ritter does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Fatu shoots in for a takedown but Ritter shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eddie Fatu. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fatu fails with a takedown attempt.
Fatu takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Ritter drops Fatu with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Fatu looks back up at him and smiles so Ritter waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.


It looks like Eddie Fatu has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ritter misses the shot to the body.
Fatu shoots for a takedown but Ritter saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Fatu on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Ritter. Ritter obviously looking to wear him down.
Ritter misses with a double jab.
Fatu changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ritter tries to avoid it but Fatu manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ritter to the ground. Ritter escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Fatu checks the leg kick nicely there.
Ritter tries to land a front kick but Fatu steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Ritter tries to clinch up.
Fatu blocks a head kick by Ritter.

Ritter moves into range and clinches up with Fatu.
Ritter softening up his opponent with strikes, against the ropes.
Fatu avoids a wild elbow strike from Ritter.
Fatu jumps guard but Ritter turns him against the ropes and keeps the fight standing.
Fatu tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Ritter just stands there and leans against the ropes.
Ritter missing with knees to the body.
Ritter is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Fatu is defending well for now.
Fatu on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Fatu blocks a body shot from Ritter.
A short left from Ritter.
Ritter lands with a short shot to the head.
Fatu jumps guard but Ritter stands there with Fatu around his waist. Fatu gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Ritter lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Fatu backwards.

Ritter controlling the action here for a moment.
Fatu blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Fatu tries to pull guard but Ritter won't allow it.
Ritter misses with a hook to the ribs.
Ritter tries to land knees in the clinch but Fatu avoids the damage to the body.
Fatu tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Ritter just stands there and leans against the ropes.

Ritter throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Fatu blocks it with crossed arms.
Ritter stalling the fight.
Ritter lands a right hand.
Ritter can't find room to land a body shot as Fatu controls the action.
Ritter working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.

Ritter tries to throw a body punch but Fatu avoids it by throwing Ritter back against the ropes.
With the fighters up against the ropes, Ritter throws an elbow but misses.
Ritter tries to work over Fatu's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Ritter scores with a shoulder strike.

Fatu ties up his opponent against the ropes and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Fatu no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Ritter stops Fatu from standing up.

Fatu wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ritter tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Fatu paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A nice leg kick lands there from Ritter.

Ritter darts in and clinches Fatu up against the ropes.
Ritter lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Fatu is breathing heavily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ritter throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Ritter unloads a knee to the mid-section. Fatu lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Ritter is working Fatu over against the ropes.
Ritter lands an elbow inside.
Oh Fatu is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Ritter landing knees to the body.
Fatu seems to have got his legs back now.
Ritter lands a knee to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ritter drops Fatu onto one knee with a big uppercut from the clinch! Fatu is propped up by the ropes and works his way back to his feet!


Eddie Fatu's cut is getting worse.
Ritter misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Ritter connects with a massive knee from the clinch and Fatu goes down! Ritter jumps into full mount looking to finish!
Fatu is trying to stand.
Ritter controlling the position easily from mount.
Ritter has his opponent pinned against the ropes, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Fatu's face.
Whack. That's a big, big shot from Ritter! Fatu is out cold! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 6:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Icarus Ritter!
Icarus Ritter decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
