Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rubiao Macarenco! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Matt Preston! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Preston closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Macarenco's guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Preston won't allow Macarenco to sweep him here. Preston controlling from the top position. Preston landing some decent shots from guard. Preston must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Preston passes Macarenco's left leg - he's now in half guard. Macarenco won't allow Preston to pass to mount. Preston seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. It looks like Preston might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Preston's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
That's one minute gone in the round. Preston tries to pass the half guard into mount. Macarenco knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Matt Preston was stalling too much, according to the referee. Preston scores with a takedown into Macarenco's guard. Macarenco has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Preston can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Preston passes into half guard. Preston takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Macarenco has a hand on Preston's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Preston takes advantage of the position though and mounts him! Preston lands a heavy elbow.
Macarenco is rocked! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Macarenco is trying to escape the mount.
Oh Macarenco is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Macarenco seems to have got his legs back now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Preston lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Macarenco hang on? Preston putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Macarenco is working to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. A big strike lands for Preston! That's really hurt Macarenco and he's turned his back - Preston keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Preston jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Matt Preston! Matt Preston decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
