PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kirk Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Torin Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Williams comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Whom Shall I Fear kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kirk Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Torin Williams!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Roger Salmon and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walker takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.


It looks like Kirk Walker has been cut.
Walker defending well as Williams loads up on a big left hand.
Walker has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Walker there as he acknowledges the shot.
A combination from Williams does no damage.
Williams fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Walker manages to avoid it.

Walker gets caught napping as Williams dives in and scores a takedown. Walker manages to retain guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Williams wanted to stand there but Walker had control of the position.
Walker wants to sweep here but Williams controlling him for the moment.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Walker keeping moving, preventing Williams from controlling successfully.
Walker looking to hit a scissor sweep but Williams is one step ahead there.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Walker holds on and takes a little breather.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Williams would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Williams throws a body kick that misses.
Williams looks for a takedown but Walker sprawls well.
Walker throws a series of punches but Williams avoids them all with ease.
Torin Williams seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Williams looks to land a combination but Walker avoids it well.

Walker has taken the fight to the clinch.

Williams misses with a body punch.
Williams is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Walker is defending well.
Walker blocks an uppercut.
Williams struggles to land a body shot inside as Walker controls his hands.

Walker has Williams pressed against the cage, preventing Williams from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Williams jumps guard but Walker turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Walker gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Williams regains guard.
Walker loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Walker passes Williams's left leg - he's now in half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Williams can do anything to dispel that myth.
Walker is taking a breather. Williams says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Walker seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Williams for as long as he can get away with.
Walker is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

That was a close round but I would say that Kirk Walker will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


A left and a right from Williams both land. Nice combination.
Williams tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Walker manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Walker moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Williams!
Walker scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Williams gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Walker.
Williams takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Williams fails to land the takedown.
Williams misses with a leg kick.
Walker avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Williams misses with a body kick.
Williams slips a jab and a cross from Walker.
Williams changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Walker tries to avoid it but Williams manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Walker to the ground. Walker escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Walker tries to close the distance and clinch up but Williams swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Walker misses with a few strikes there.
Walker shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Williams defends it nicely.

Walker takes the fight into the clinch.

Kirk Walker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Torin Williams.
Williams fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Williams wants to get back to striking at distance but Walker won't allow it.

Williams misses with a low kick.

Walker throws a push kick but Williams slaps the foot to one side.
Williams lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Walker circles away quickly and effectively.
Williams slips a jab and a cross from Walker.
Walker lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Williams keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Williams doesn't manage to clinch there - Walker circles away.
Walker tries to close the distance and clinch but Williams swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Walker misses with a double jab

and Williams counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Williams tries to stand but Walker is controlling from the bottom.

Williams postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Williams wants to stand and escape but instead Walker has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Walker not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Walker postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Williams is trying to keep Walker in close.

Walker slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Walker is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Walker tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Walker scoring with punches and elbows.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Walker just content to control the position.
Kirk Walker overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Walker wants to lay and pray for a moment but Williams keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Kirk Walker will probably get the nod.

That's time! Walker's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Williams tries to bum rush Walker with a series of wild strikes but Walker uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Walker swings for the body but Williams moves out of range.
Torin Williams seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Williams misses with a jab, cross combination.
Walker looks to land a combination. Williams sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Williams is not content to let Walker control the position.
Walker throws an elbow but Williams slips to the side and avoids it well.
Walker lands a few punches from side control.

Walker wants to control but Williams is keeping him busy.
Williams on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Williams tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Walker connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Williams some visible discomfort.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Williams looks to move to half guard but instead Walker has passed into mount! Damn!
Kirk Walker is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Walker takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Walker's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Kirk Walker just wasn't active enough.
Williams takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Williams is defended easily by Walker.
Kirk Walker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Torin Williams.
Williams takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Walker avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Walker manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Williams on his heels. He'll look to pass Williams's guard now, I'm sure.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Walker stays in close to Williams's body and controls the position.
Walker is pushing down on Williams's leg trying to pass to half guard. Williams is fighting to maintain full guard but Walker has managed to sneak the leg through.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kirk Walker showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Walker, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
