The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A telegraphed takedown attempt from De La Cruz is defended easily by Manel. Nice takedown defense from De La Cruz. No joy for Manel on that attempt. De La Cruz has Manel up against the cage in a clinch.
Manel gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from De La Cruz.
De La Cruz looks winded! Manel trying to stall but De La Cruz improves his position.
Manel tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. De La Cruz smiles and moves away.
Manel with a body punch. A glancing blow. De La Cruz keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roger Manel. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's one minute gone in the round. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Manel is defended easily by De La Cruz. Manel changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. De La Cruz tries to avoid it but Manel manages to keep hold of a leg and drag De La Cruz to the ground. De La Cruz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. De La Cruz doesn't manage to clinch there - Manel circles away.
De La Cruz closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Manel did well to prevent De La Cruz getting side control. The fighters are battling for position here. Manel manages to regain full guard. Nice work. De La Cruz stopping the sweep attempt from Manel. Manel looking for a guillotine here but De La Cruz defends easily.
Manel throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Manel wants to control but De La Cruz passes easily into half guard.
Manel wants to get back to full guard. De La Cruz slips a nice elbow through Manel's hands, connecting with Manel's forehead. Manel wants to get back to full guard but De La Cruz has passed into side control. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. De La Cruz advances to full mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. De La Cruz takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Manel is working to get back to half guard.

Manel knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for De La Cruz on the ground. De La Cruz punishing his opponent with strikes. De La Cruz prevents Manel from getting the reversal. De La Cruz scores with a couple of good head shots there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Manel tries to reverse the position but De La Cruz maintains control. De La Cruz looking to control and managing it successfully. Manel manages to regain half guard. Good work. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with De La Cruz in particular looking to stall. Manel wants to improve his position but De La Cruz is controlling well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. De La Cruz throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Jose De La Cruz will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

De La Cruz tries to clinch up. Roger Manel is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Manel leaves De La Cruz with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. De La Cruz fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Manel throws a sloppy head kick and De La Cruz moves out of range easily. Danga de danga de dang - Manel scores with a four punch combination! De La Cruz gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Manel keeps control of De La Cruz as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Manel pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. De La Cruz is breathing heavily. Manel shoots in for a takedown but De La Cruz shows good takedown defense. Manel tries to close the distance and clinch up but De La Cruz swats him away and circles back towards the center.
That's one minute gone in the round. Manel shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Manel is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
De La Cruz wants to get back to his feet. Manel is working for a submission of some sort.
Manel is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

De La Cruz is staying active underneath Manel, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Manel is just content to waste time from the top position. De La Cruz takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Manel stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. De La Cruz swivels though and keeps the full guard. Manel has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Manel won't allow De La Cruz to get back to his feet. Manel wants to stand but De La Cruz has a closed guard, so he can't escape. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Manel postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! De La Cruz is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Manel, into his guard. De La Cruz avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
De La Cruz works a leg free and moves into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ground and pound from De La Cruz. De La Cruz looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Manel with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Manel is trying to stand up here but De La Cruz is controlling him well. Manel is trying to control but can't.
De La Cruz passes to full mount! Manel in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Manel is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Roger Manel will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
De La Cruz shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. De La Cruz showed some decent athleticism there. Manel moves into full guard.
Manel is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
De La Cruz is standing up over Manel. Manel looks to escape but De La Cruz dives into side control.
De La Cruz stands up and beckons Manel to his feet. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Manel displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from De La Cruz.

De La Cruz looking to sweep here. No luck so far. De La Cruz trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! De La Cruz is looking to stand up but Manel isn't so interested in that idea. De La Cruz has his foot on Manel's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Manel works his way back into a safe position though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Manel trying to control the position from guard on top but De La Cruz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Manel throwing strikes but missing. Manel wants to control from the top but De La Cruz keeps moving. Manel sitting in guard here, content to control.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Roger Manel wasn't doing enough on the ground. De La Cruz shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Manel shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Manel showed some decent athleticism there.

Manel tries to stand but De La Cruz is controlling from the bottom. Manel is sitting in close to De La Cruz's body. De La Cruz has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Manel is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Manel is tapping! That was a very nice submission by De La Cruz.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Jose De La Cruz! A determined Jose De La Cruz didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
