Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dahl Haas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tom Segura! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yuuki Gou and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Segura is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Haas.
It looks like Tom Segura has been cut. Segura shoots in but Haas avoids the takedown attempt easily. Segura ducks right into an uppercut from Haas. A big left from Haas misses. Segura fails with a takedown attempt. Haas slips a straight right by Segura. A left lands for Haas. Haas scores with a decent looking hook. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Segura bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Segura wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Haas, who protects the arm well. Haas struggling a bit here. Segura working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Segura is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Haas is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Segura looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Segura throws a strike aimed at the side of Haas's head but Haas avoids it well. Segura is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Haas knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Haas defending against the ground and pound. Haas on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Haas tries to get out of the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Segura tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Segura lands a decent elbow from side control. Segura in side control, throwing shots but Haas defends. Segura sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Haas is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Segura is looking to take a break and control but Haas is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Segura lands a decent elbow from side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Segura tries for a kimura but Haas is defending well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Segura cracks Haas with a big elbow. Segura working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Segura is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Haas knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Haas tries to improve position but can't. Segura has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Haas is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Segura yanks on the arm and Haas is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Segura.
