Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Karl Pilkington! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 19 - 1, fighting out of New York, Tommy Fire! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Bruno Lombardi and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pilkington will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Fire is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Pilkington. Pilkington throws a combination that misses and Fire counters with a nice double leg into guard. Pilkington is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Pilkington escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Fire gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Pilkington trying to keep a closed guard but Fire is proving a slippery customer.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Fire must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Karl Pilkington. Fire on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Fire takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Pilkington lands with a nice body punch. Fire eats them both and turns towards Pilkington to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. No luck with that takedown attempt from Fire. Fire looks winded! Fire closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Pilkington pushes Fire away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Fire gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. You can see the frustration on Pilkington's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Pilkington is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Fire's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Pilkington makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fire takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Pilkington throws a nice looking combination but Fire bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Fire fails with the takedown and Pilkington counters with a nice kick to the body. Pilkington explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work. Pilkington slaps away a takedown attempt from Fire, before circling back to the center of the mat. Karl Pilkington has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tommy Fire. Pilkington shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Fire's guard. Pilkington controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Pilkington postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fire on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Pilkington ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Pilkington scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Pilkington is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Fire reverses the position - he's now on top in Pilkington's guard. Pilkington throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. Pilkington pushes Fire off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
